Great news, we can’t wait for work on phase two to start! 🙌🏻

A partnership between Fylde Council, the Environment Agency, United Utilities and the Ribble Rivers Trust is bringing exciting improvements to Liggard Brook, including debris clearance, de-silting works and plans to improve river flow and water quality 🦆

Over the next 18 months, phase two of the project will get underway – and there'll even be opportunities for the local community to get involved.

Lytham Windmill is far more than just a landmark, to many of us it feels like an old friend watching over our beautiful town.

Residents and visitors alike love seeing the windmill illuminated throughout the year, especially when it shines in support of local charities, national causes and community celebrations.

As Lytham West councillors, we know how much affection people have for this iconic part of Lytham and we fully support the work now taking place to restore the lighting with a modern, reliable new system.

We look forward to seeing our much-loved windmill lighting up the Green again soon. 💙

📢 Statement on Lytham Windmill Lighting Issues.

The up-lighting system used to illuminate Lytham Windmill has unfortunately deteriorated to the point where it is no longer functional. The current setup is an ageing and complex system that has historically required specialist contractors to change colours, carry out adjustments, and keep it operating reliably.

Due to the age of the equipment and the exposed location of the windmill, the lighting has now failed on two of the four up-lights. The remaining two units have begun to strobe uncontrollably, and for safety reasons we have made the decision to power the entire system down.

Given the complexity and limitations of the existing arrangement, we are now actively exploring options to fully renew the lighting system. Our goal is to install a modern, reliable, and easy to operate solution that will allow our own staff to manage colour changes for charitable causes and community events without the need for an electrician.

We understand how important the illuminated windmill is to residents and visitors alike, and we share that pride in seeing this iconic landmark lit up. We remain committed to restoring this service and are currently in discussions with suppliers and installation contractors to design a long term, future proof lighting package.

Further updates will be provided as plans progress.

We welcome reports that the Government has delayed the decision on the Morecambe & Morgan cable corridor until September.

Hopefully this gives proper consideration to the alternative route backed jointly by Fylde, Lancashire and Wyre councils, alongside the hard work and campaigning of many Fylde town and parish councils working to protect our communities and countryside.

Fingers crossed all the hard work pays off and Ed Miliband listens to Fylde! 🤞🏻

Well what an early start today… 5am Dawn Chorus walk with the Civic Society eco-group, pic shows just some of the birds we heard this morning. Then back in to witch wood later to build bird boxes, clearing and edging paths with the band of merry volunteers from the eco-group
