🏆 MID ULSTER FEDERATION – 2nd TRAMORE YOUNG BIRDS 🏆

The Mid Ulster Federation continued its 2026 young bird programme on Friday 28th August with the second race from Tramore, with the convoy liberated at 11.00am.

This week the honours went to the Meadows Centre, where Larkin Bros produced a tremendous team performance to take 1st, 2nd and 5th Federation, headed by two youngsters separated by less than half a yard per minute.

🏆 LARKIN BROS STRIKE 1st & 2nd FEDERATION

What a result for the Larkin Bros partnership, racing out of the Meadows Centre, taking 1st and 2nd Mid Ulster Federation with velocities of 1391.939 and 1391.476 ypm.

Their Federation winner, GB26S25319, was one of a kit of youngsters received from good friend and clubmate Geoffrey Douglas, and its pedigree certainly carries the credentials to match its performance.

The winning young c**k is bred from a hen that has proven herself at the highest level, recording 86th King’s Cup in 2024, returning to the King’s Cup in 2025 and flying outside the prizes, before taking 20th King’s Cup in 2026 and 1st Single Bird Challenge, earning an INFC Merit Award.

She carries the highly regarded Walkingshaw/Buddle bloodlines and was paired to a son of Foxy Ali, winner of 1st Open NIPA Rosscarberry Yearling National C***s in 2016, from a daughter of Foxy Jack, winner of 1st Open NIPA Rosscarberry Young Bird National in 2009.

Golden bloodlines from a master stockman and true gentleman of the sport, and Larkin Bros were delighted to see Geoffrey Douglas’ breeding come through in such style.

Remarkably, their second arrival was right on the winner’s tail. GB26S25407 recorded 1391.476 ypm to claim 2nd Federation and was bred by the partnership’s brother Alan Larkin.

The sire is a direct Louis Thijs, a full brother to the pigeons responsible for Paul & Christine Titcomb’s 1st and 2nd NFC Cholet in 2014. The dam comes from the loft of Peter Fox of Syndicate Lofts, being a daughter of Macho and Olympic Beauty.

With another Larkin Bros youngster taking 5th Federation on 1384.106 ypm, it completed a superb team performance and capped an excellent run of form for the partnership, who have been consistently at the head of the Meadows Centre throughout the young bird campaign.

This time they took that form right to the very top of the Mid Ulster Federation result.

The Larkin brothers would like to thank the Mid Ulster Federation and everyone involved in making the racing possible, as well as the many friends and fellow fanciers who called or messaged to congratulate them on a memorable result.

HOGGIS

Last week’s Federation winner Davy Calvin continued his excellent form, taking 3rd Federation on 1390.766 ypm, finishing extremely close to the two Meadows leaders.

McClean & Craig also enjoyed an outstanding race, taking 4th Federation on 1385.243 and returning again for 6th Federation on 1381.955.

Geordie Calvin followed at 7th Federation, Ronnie Williamson at 8th and G. Buckley & Son at 9th, with Geordie Calvin back again to complete the Federation top ten.

Another very strong showing from the Hoggis lofts.

BLEARY

Congratulations once again to G & S McMullan, who continue their excellent young bird season by winning the Bleary Centre.

Their first pigeon, GB26D17907, recorded 1359.065 ypm.

C. Duke & Son took 2nd Centre on 1354.510, G & S McMullan returned for 3rd on 1345.213, while C & H Beattie completed the leading four on 1309.972.

Another centre victory adds to what has already been a memorable young bird campaign for Jeff and Stan.

ARMAGH

Congratulations to Kieran Shannon, who takes 1st Armagh Centre from 2nd Tramore.

Well done Kieran on another centre success.

Mid Ulster Federation – 2nd Portlaoise Young Bird Race

The Mid Ulster Federation returned to Portlaoise on Saturday 1st August for the second young bird race of the season. A total of 32 members sent 1,345 pigeons, with the convoy liberated at 8.38am into generally sunny conditions with a south-west to west wind of around 10–11mph, providing favourable racing conditions for the journey home.

The race produced a superb finish, with G & S McMullan of Bleary taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd Federation, their winning pigeon recording a velocity of 1861.399 ypm. Ronnie Williamson of the Hoggis Centre followed closely behind, claiming 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th Federation, another outstanding performance from one of the Federation’s leading lofts.

The Bleary Centre belonged to G & S McMullan, whose first three pigeons headed the Federation result. Their winning youngster has recently been named “Little Nims” in memory of one of the 14 mountaineers who tragically lost their lives in the recent avalanche.

“Little Nims” is bred from Ceuster × Rico. The sire of the winner and the dam of the second prize winner are summer-bred nestmates from last season. The partnership would also like to thank Tim Webster (UK) for the Rico bloodlines. Their third Federation pigeon is bred from Ceuster × Gabby, with all three pigeons sharing the same granddam—a wonderful example of the consistency within their family.

The Hoggis Centre once again saw Ronnie Williamson produce an exceptional performance, filling many of the leading Federation positions and demonstrating the tremendous form of his young bird team.

In the Meadows Centre, Geoffrey Douglas also enjoyed an outstanding race, taking the first three positions in the centre and placing 12th, 39th and 42nd Federation, another excellent card against strong competition.

Congratulations also go to G. A. Campbell, who topped the Armagh Centre, continuing another highly competitive week for the Federation.

A sincere thank you goes to Jackie McNeill Cars & Co. for generously sponsoring this week’s race and prize fund. Thanks also go to the convoying team, race controllers, centre officials and all the volunteers whose hard work ensures the smooth running of the Mid Ulster Federation each week.

Finally, congratulations to every member who featured in the result and to all who clocked pigeons on another excellent day of young bird racing. We wish everyone the very best of luck for next week’s race.
