Congratulations to our 2023 winter graduates! 🎓🍾🎉👏

Better late than never but, it was an honour to be part of the academic procession for the 2023 winter graduation ceremonies. It was pretty crazy to be sat on the stage considering I only crossed it myself 6 months ago, and especially to share it with the likes of Seb Coe and Becky Heaton. I even got to share the stage with and end up on the instagram of Tom from Married at First Sight (much to my mum’s delight)!

I always love graduations, it is such a beautiful time of sheer joy and pride, and being part of the procession was such a privilege.

Last week, I was invited to the Department for Education in Westminster to discuss PREVENT duty and how this affects higher education.

It was extremely valuable to be able to share the ongoing issues facing students across the UK.

WINTERFEST 2023 🎄❤️

Last Monday LSU hosted this years Winterfest and societies showcase!

Our incredible student groups showcased their hobbies, interests and talents on stalls which featured games, face painting, crafts and handmade jewellery.

The wonderful Jo Jennings turned on our Christmas lights before concluding the night with our amazing societies showcase.

Our incredible performance and arts societies pulled out all the stops and showcased their wide breadth of talents to a SOLD OUT crowd!

A massive congratulations to our wonderful community leads LSU Rag, LSU Societies, LSU Action and LSU Enterprise for a fabulous event.

Today, I was invited to the House of Lords on behalf of Generation Rent to launch their report on ‘Giving Renters a Voice at the Ballot Box’, hosted by Baroness Kennedy of Cradley.

I also got to see the statue of Emmeline Pankhurst, the powerful woman who allowed me to have the job that I have today!

BE PART OF THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN YOUR UNION - JOIN THE STUDENT VOICE COMMITTEE

We're looking for 15 enthusiastic and proactive students or doctoral researchers to be elected as members of the new Student Voice Committee. This Committee will affect positive change by channelling student opinion including reviewing suggestions made by their peers on the new SUggestions platform.

This role is an opportunity to affect positive change, make a difference on campus, and looks great on your CV.

Those interested should nominate themselves on the LSU website at lsu.co.uk/elections Candidates will then undergo a week of campaigning, and gather support for their election onto the Student Voice Committee. The student population will then have the opportunity to vote for those who they'd like to elect. Those successful will then meet and start driving campus-wide change!

Nominations open: 14th - 27th November
Campaigning: 28th November - 6th December
Voting period: 4th December - 6th December
First Student Voice Committee meeting and election of Chair: December 8th

Lest We Forget ❤️🌹

This year I had the honour of supporting the Royal British Leigon on both their London Poppy Day and Rememberance Sunday.

Today, on Rememberance Sunday, I had the honour of laying a poppy wreath on behalf of Loughborough Student’s Union. The service was beautiful and moving, and a total honour to be a part of.

For those who gave their today for our tommorow, we will remember them.

❤️💛💚 BLACK HISTORY MONTH ❤️💛💚

As October has come to a close, I’d like to recognise the work of our incredible LSU Welfare & Diversity volunteers and their work during Black History Month.

I had the pleasure of attending the EMN (Ethnic Minorities Network) black beauty workshop which allowed individuals to learn and share their makeup, hair and nail skills. I also got to try some Nigerian food, which was absolutey delicious! It was a beautiful celebration of black beauty and sisterhood.

I also had the privilege of attending ‘The History and Legacy of Slavery with Carol Leeming MBE’. Carol was a truly enigmatic and exciting force, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her perspective and knowledge, and her words have empowered me to decolonise everything I’ve ever known, and to do better as a white ally. Thank you Loughborough University for putting on this event.

Whilst Black History month has come to a close, it’s important to remember that black history is all of our history, and our support, activism and allyship should not be limited to the month of October. ❤️💛💚

Despite Storm Ciaran giving us his worst, It was so great to get out onto the streets of London to collect money and hand out poppies on behalf of Royal British Leigon last Thursday with LSU Rag!
