"My wife and I are volunteer fundraisers and cover various events across London and the Southeast. We help with fundraising, including bucket collections, and help to raise awareness of the Fund’s work to support the RAF Family. I spent 37 years in the RAF as a navigator flying air defence aircraft, retiring as a Wing Commander in 2014. I met my wife Caroline in 1982 at RAF Finningley when completing my navigator training and we married in 1985." - Allan Goodison, ex-RAF Navigator and Fund volunteer.

This , we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy and compassion to support the RAF Family. Volunteers like Allan and Caroline Goodison show the true impact of kindness and community helping others, building connections and making a real difference.

Whether it’s offering support, sharing experiences or simply being there for someone who needs it, every volunteer helps keep the heart of the Royal Air Force Family strong.

We are here to support the RAF Family through thick and thin, providing life-changing assistance when it is needed most.

Ann Hughes spent two decades serving as an Royal Air Force Policewoman, guarding nuclear weapons, working in counterintelligence, and serving in Iraq. But in 2007, she faced her toughest challenge yet: a diagnosis of secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

After being medically discharged, Ann felt lost and struggled as her mobility deteriorated. That’s when we stepped in.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide an adapted home and a mobility scooter, allowing Ann to maintain the self-sufficiency that means so much to her. Today, she is giving back as a Fund Ambassador.

“I have always been aware of the support the Fund has provided to the serving community, so I’m delighted to support the charity as I come up to the end of my RAF career." - Warrant Officer Neil Mackie.

A huge congratulations to Neil from RAF Lossiemouth who recently completed the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on Sunday , taking on the 26.2 mile challenge to raise vital funds for us.

Neil joined the RAF in December 1988 as a Logistics Supplier and has served across Germany, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, with operational deployments including the Falkland Islands, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar. Neil will be retiring from the RAF after 37 years of service.

On 31 May 2026, Sergeant Alan Ashley is taking on the Newmarket Half Marathon to raise money for us. We helped him "partially close some doors" of his stress which put him in a better place.

Alan, a 42-year-old serviceman with 22 years of service, was struggling with Post-Operational Stress in early 2025.

After receiving life-changing telephone counselling through our Listening and Counselling Service, he is now running to ensure that others can always reach out and get the support they need.

Did you know that two-thirds of our income comes from gifts left in Wills? 💙

Legacy giving is a powerful, reliable way to support the RAF Family, especially during challenging times. It helps ensure those in need receive life‑changing support, from mobility equipment to vital listening and counselling services, for generations to come.

Writing a Will might feel like a daunting task, but as our Q&A highlights, it is simpler than you think. And remember: absolutely no gift is ever too small to make a lasting difference.

A Memory Owed - Short Film 2025 beautifully captures the camaraderie and global effort of the men and women who came together to support Bomber Command. They were young, full of life, and bound by duty.

The RAF Benevolent Fund is privileged to protect the memory of the 55,573 crew members who lost their lives, while continuing to support the veterans and serving personnel who walk in their footsteps today.

Ahead of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival , we are shining a spotlight on three incredible fundraisers stepping up for us! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

🌟 Greg Wheeler has already doubled his fundraising target! He was inspired to take on his challenge to give back to the Fund after receiving support during a difficult time of need.

🌟 Anna Heyes has also doubled her original goal ahead of her first-ever half marathon, inspired by exploring her family’s RAF history and seeing the profound impact the charity has on the community.

🎖️ WO Neil Mackie is running his first-ever road marathon to mark his retirement from the Royal Air Force after 37 years of dedicated service. Having served across Germany, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and on numerous operational deployments, Neil currently serves at RAF Lossiemouth. He sees first-hand the vital importance of welfare support for families including resources like Ben’s Den and Airplay Youth Support and is running to ensure that support continues.

A massive public thank you to Neil, Greg, and Anna for their incredible dedication. Every single donation helps makes a direct difference to someone in the RAF Family. Good luck on event day!

This , we are sharing how we became a lifeline for Royal Air Force widow Helen when her husband Bill was diagnosed with vascular dementia and facing declining health.

With our help, Bill received an Electric Powered Vehicle, allowing him to visit the shops and tend to his beloved garden and greenhouse.

We also provided recliner armchairs to support both Bill and Helen’s mobility needs, as well as a grant for a new boiler during a incredibly challenging time.

Following Bill's passing in February 2025, Helen and her family generously raised over £370 in donations at his funeral to give back.

Helen says: “The support from the Fund gave me a feeling of comfort and security. It helped to take away the fear... I’ll never forget the thought, care, and compassion that has been shown to me.”
