It was brilliant to meet Marshalling Brain Injuries Alliance recently to learn more about the wonderful support group they offer people with CTE and to discuss our shared aims around CTE - one of the most neglected brain and mind conditions.

They came across us thanks to our co-Founder Dr Emer MacSweeney's TEDx talk on the subject. Sharing here for anyone who wants to learn more:

Thank you Personal Injury Lawyers for allowing our Foundation to highlight the important issue of undiagnosed brain injuries in veterans. More awareness of blast-related Mild Traumatic Brain Injury is urgently needed, with symptoms often mistaken for PTSD.

Exciting plans are in development to drive forward this area - help by donating today at https://lnkd.in/eBNPWpsT

Sleep plays a vital role in how the brain functions and maintains itself.

Growing evidence suggests that disrupted sleep may affect the brain’s ability to clear waste, including proteins linked to dementia risk. Research into sleep and the brain continues to strengthen understanding of why good sleep matters for long-term cognitive health.

World Sleep Day highlights the importance of healthy sleep as part of overall brain wellbeing.

In case you missed it: Dr Emer MacSweeney’s second TEDx talk is now live.

Dr MacSweeney shares the stories of two people whose lives were tragically cut short by degenerative brain disease, despite their bodies remaining strong and healthy.

Her talk explores a groundbreaking way of understanding how our brains work, why diseases like Alzheimer’s and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) develop, and how emerging treatments may help change the future for millions of people worldwide.

A special thank you to TEDx for the opportunity to share this important conversation.

Interesting new research in the brain and mind health field:

New research shows that poor sleep combined with high blood pressure may increase the risk of dementia later in life. Sleep helps the brain clear waste products and maintain healthy function, while unmanaged blood pressure places added strain on blood vessels in the brain.

Prioritising good sleep and managing blood pressure are important steps in protecting cognitive health.

February is Heart Month. Heart and vascular health are closely linked to brain health, dementia risk and stroke. Healthy blood vessels support blood flow to the brain, helping maintain memory, thinking and overall cognitive function.

Looking after your heart is an important part of protecting long-term brain health.

Interesting research from Newcastle University

Research from Newcastle University shows that regular social interaction is linked to better mental health, reduced stress and stronger cognitive resilience. Staying socially connected plays an important role in supporting wellbeing as we age.

The brain benefits from meaningful relationships, just as it does from movement, rest and mental stimulation.

How are you feeling as January comes to an end?

January can feel long and demanding, especially after the momentum of the New Year fades. Taking a moment to check in with yourself can help you notice how you are coping and what support you might need.

Wellbeing is not about perfection or pushing through. It is about recognising when to rest, when to talk, and when to ask for help. Small check-ins can make a meaningful difference.
