We love seeing Social Work students bring their prior experience into real‑world practice. During this 3‑month MA placement at a rehab‑centre, Shang didn’t just learn — he helped shape approaches to individual counselling, family support, and community‑based recovery.

Our students' insight, creativity, and developing professional identity made a genuine contribution to the centre’s work, and placementees arecsupported 24/7 by tyeir hists and us. If you’re ready for a placement where your existing skills matter where your ideas can support local development, we’d be excited to welcome you next.

What if "normal" isn't normal everywhere?
From newspaper headlines about witch doctors casting football spells to communities where walking long distances is simply part of daily life, Uganda challenges psychology students to see the world through a different lens.
Theories become real. Assumptions get tested. Perspectives expand.

Our psychology internships in Uganda aren't just about gaining experience — they are also about understanding people in all their diversity.

You'll be fully supported throughout your stay, with options to choose from in location and type of internship from rehab centres, to communities, and even with the Bantu (pygmy) tribe.

Travel really does open the mind, and enables us to share new ideas. In this case, my experiences in Sri Lanka have enabled me to introduce new, free, and highly nutritious food ideas to Uganda. A bold claim, but it seems, true. None I have met, despite coming from diverse tribes and areas, knew of this. Volunteer with us. Change your world, and theirs.

We're looking at the work of an NGO supporting organic farming, livelihood growth, environmental sustainability, and a hospital working with chikdren with HIV needing to set up psychological counselling. In this video, we show how local people are being trained to make cookers from mud and other materials, to cook on more efficient fires than open fires, thus saving firewood, the woodlands, labour, time, and making less dangerous kitchens for adults and children. The lady in this video saw, and replicated.

It's not all work when you volunteer or intern with us. There's always plenty to see and do too, wherever you go

I asked Abe, who was with us in Uganda on a psychology internship, about his experience.
