Outnumbers people? That's nice ❤️🔥🐈⬛♥️
In Japan, there is a small island where cats outnumber the human residents. On Aoshima, there were times when as many as six cats lived for every one person on the island.
The first cats were brought there years ago to help control rats in a small fishing village. Over the decades, however, the human population steadily declined, while the cats continued to multiply and roam freely around the island.
Today, many of the remaining residents feed the cats every day, believing the act brings good luck and prosperity. A visiting veterinarian and sterilization programs also help manage the growing feline population and keep the animals healthy.
With no restaurants, shops, or cars, Aoshima remains a quiet and simple place. Yet it has become a fascinating destination for visitors who want to experience the unique sight of dozens of cats wandering peacefully through the streets, living side by side with the few people who still call the island home.
