Together, we can break the stigma

Today is World Mental Health Day 🌍.

Let’s take a moment to recognise that mental wellness is a journey we all share. None of us are immune to challenges, and we all have the power and a part to play in supporting one another.

Hear Us is committed to being a voice of change and challenging the things that make it difficult for adults who live with mental ill health.

During September, globally we respectfully recognise and seek to reduce the stigma around death where su***de was involved by breaking the silence, giving space to those who feel unable to speak up, and who feel unheard or not understood,

According to Croydon’s Multi-Agency Self-Harm & Su***de Prevention Strategy (all-ages) 2025-2028, there were 60 deaths by su***de recorded in Croydon between 2021-2023. The hope is that figure will one day be zero.

Death by su***de is a complex matter, and there are many risk factors and reasons why it tragically occurs. The report notes that living with mental ill health, financial instability, experience of the criminal justice system, struggling with identity, grief, loss, and many other nuanced lived experiences may add to a persons vulnerability. We consider the impact for those who have experienced loss of this kind, family member, friends, colleagues and the community as a whole.

To everyone reading this:-
You are valued, worthy and matter.

It can be easy to believe that you're not equipped to support someone living with mental ill health. But people can feel supported when you do the simplest of things. You don't have to be a trained therapist, or be apart of a charity. Assisting with everyday tasks, showing up can ease the pressure of daily life, can show people that they are valued and can make the day feel less heavy.
Showing up for others helps to reduce the stigma of their illness and helps them feel less alone.

Comment below if you can thing of any more simple forms of support.

May is International Mental Health Awareness month.

Just like physical health, every human has mental health too.

Many things impact our ability to be mentally healthy; we have to see and work on the whole picture to make life feel better. Every aspect of our lives contributes to our mental wellbeing. If we're struggling or live with mental ill health, it's important for those around us to see that the need is not just what's happening in our brains, but help should come from all around.

Let's talk about it and hope that people will hear us!
