I trust this message finds you well. As the High Commissioner for Grenada, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing support to the people of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, especially during challenging times such as Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and the Covid-19 pandemic in 201...

- Terrible scenes of devastation in areas of the Eastern Caribbean, with reports of fatalities in & & the Grenadines, 20 years after Hurricane Ivan wreaked havoc & destruction. Then, we rebuilt. We'll do so again. Thinking of everyone in this beautiful part of the world which will continue to suffer the effects of climate crisis, poor planning & regulations, underdevelopment, indebtedness & globalisation. Time to step up the debate on . There's a direct correlation.

In the meantime, whilst the clearing up begins, be careful of the fundraising initiatives. I'm seeing these springing up everywhere in the UK from people I've never heard of. Of course I don't know everyone in the UK Grenada community, but I have a sense of who's who.
You're probably OK giving goods and provisions to those collecting, but for monetary donations, give these to registered charities, organisations and personnel with a track record of community work in or for Grenada, or to official government disaster relief channels.

RIP - On the day that Grenadians celebrated its 50th anniversary of independence, with the country adorned by thousands of flags of red, green and gold, of the nutmeg, and of the stars representing the 7 parishes, its creator, Anthony George, passed on to the ancestors.

George lived between the UK and Grenada and would regale in stories of what inspired his design of the flag, wincing when he'd moan about its use on what he considered to be inappropriate clothing like bikinis and bandanas, and remonstrating whenever he saw his beloved design displayed the wrong way up to the point that I never posted the flag without checking a dozen times that I had it right.

George has appeared on stamps, received numerous awards, and his moment of great joy was when a street in St Andrew, the parish of his birth, was named after him. In 2013 he published Beyond Belief, a memoir of his life.

When someone dies, we often say their legacy will live on. George's truly will if yesterday's majical celebrations of Grenada 50, and the central role played by his design, is anything to go by.

You'll be missed Sir. đź’”
