A single-dose cure for malaria represents a major step forward. With malaria constantly evolving, climate-driven impacts reshaping communities at pace, and drug resistance continuing to rise, tools like those developed by our partner Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) are accelerating progress towards elimination, by making treatment shorter, simpler, and easier to complete.

We’re proud to have partnered with Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) to produce this animation highlighting how single-dose cure strengthens the ecosystem of interventions to end malaria.

With our current tools and future innovations, the possibility of ending malaria in our lifetime feels closer than ever. Tools like this are vital to sustaining momentum and moving us towards a malaria-free future.

How can we better engage the UK public on an issue that affects us all: global health? How do we creatively communicate messages about health challenges like ending malaria in ways that truly connect with people?

These are some of the big questions we explored last week at our ‘Shaping the UK Conversation’ global health communications workshop. It was energising to be in a room full of creative, thoughtful, and brilliant experts from across the global health sector, sharing ideas on how we can better engage audiences and tell more powerful stories.

In an increasingly unpredictable political environment and fragmented media landscape, it is more important than ever that we think ahead, understand our audiences and work together around a shared message to highlight that malaria can be eliminated in our lifetime.

Meet us at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Global Partnerships Conference this week co-hosted with Yvette Cooper and Children's Investment Fund Foundation.

We’re excited to joining global partners, health leaders and leading scientists to discuss the future of the fight against malaria.

In this changing world where we are facing diverse global health challenges, the conference is an opportunity to look at innovative financing, pioneering technology for health and leadership in creating solutions to global problems.

Visit us at the marketplace to explore our malaria toolboxes, which showcase the tools that control malaria today, and the innovations driving the fight to eliminate malaria for good.

Our brilliant Zero Malaria ambassador Sherrie Silver will also speak about why this fight against malaria matters and the drive behind her advocacy.

Join the conversation to build a malaria-free future together.

This week, new research from The Lancet brought hopeful news in the fight against malaria.

The RTS,S malaria vaccine, now being rolled out in 25 countries, was found to reduce overall child deaths by 13% when delivered through routine immunisation programmes in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi. That's roughly 1 in 8 deaths averted among children in eligible age groups.

What makes this particularly significant is that these results came from real-world delivery, not controlled trials, and at coverage levels that weren't even complete. Around 70% of children received the first three doses. Imagine the impact if all children eligible received the vaccine.

Malaria killed an estimated 438,000 children under 5 in 2024. We have a vaccine that is working, and a whole toolbox of interventions that can control malaria. What we need now is commitment from decision makers to get them to every child who needs it.

As malaria threats grow due to climate change and antimicrobial resistance, the UK plays a central role in driving solutions in malaria research. It leads two of the three major mosquito genetic engineering programmes and has delivered two pioneering malaria vaccines.

With the UK as the world’s second-largest funder in malaria research, continued investment will undoubtedly drive economic growth, improve global health, and protect progress towards eliminating malaria.

The UK is driving pioneering malaria research in areas including genetic engineering, vaccines, and medicines. In Tanzania, the scientists involved tell Nick Ferris why research to tackle the disease and save lives is so important, particularly given the foreign aid cuts that are taking place global...

We can . Not someday — but within our lifetimes.

UK-headquartered GSK are part of making that real. From the ongoing roll-out of their malaria vaccine, to cutting-edge research and development of new treatments to address resistance, reduce transmission in mosquitoes, and develop next-generation vaccines.

This is innovation that can truly lead to elimination.

Together, we're driven to end malaria. Now we can. Now we must.

Science is advancing faster than ever, and ending malaria in our lifetime is a real possibility.

From new treatments to next generation nets, to vaccines - new tools and pioneering technologies are in development, adding to an ecosystem of interventions already saving lives.

Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) are part of that progress, developing innovations like single-dose cures and long-acting injectables to make both cure and prevention more effective, efficient, and accessible.

Sustained funding is what gets these breakthroughs out of labs and into the communities that need them most. Now We Can. Now We Must. Zero Malaria
