The Every Child Achieving and Thriving White Paper puts wider success, stronger inclusion, and recognition beyond academic routes at the heart of education policy. These are values OCN London has built its work around for over four decades.

It is encouraging to see the direction of national policy align with what we have always believed: that achievement takes many forms, and every learner deserves a pathway that reflects their potential.

We look forward to seeing how the sector responds, and we remain committed to supporting centres in delivering qualifications that open real doors for real people.

A bit more to celebrate from this year's Michael Sargent Bursary Awards.

Alongside our two winners, we were proud to recognise our 2024-25 runner ups, Jayden Kirkbride and Edom Abraham, both from Capital City College (Tottenham).

Jayden was named runner-up for Outstanding Academic Achievement, having earned a string of Distinctions across subjects including Cybersecurity, Database and Programming on his Access to HE Diploma in Digital Technologies and Computer Science. He's now studying Computer Science at the University of Westminster.

Edom was named runner-up for Outstanding Commitment to Study, recognised for the resilience she showed throughout her course while balancing family responsibilities, employment and the cultural adjustments of studying as an immigrant student. Edom is now studying Computer Science with AI at Birkbeck, University of London.

Two brilliant learners and a real credit to Capital City College. Huge congratulations to them both.

Good luck to everyone sitting their GCSEs over the next few weeks.

It's a lot, even when you feel ready. There's the revision after dinner, the early starts, the moments of asking whether you've done enough. Plenty going on behind every exam paper that doesn't show up in the grade at the end. Take it one paper at a time. You've put the work in.

And to the centres helping learners through it all, thank you. The work you do that doesn't show up on the grade sheet is often what matters most.

There is a lot in the Every Child Achieving and Thriving White Paper that colleges and training providers need to pay attention to.

Success is being redefined beyond exam results to include belonging, wellbeing, and preparation for life and work. Support structures are shifting too, with Individual Support Plans coming in and demand for SEND and inclusion qualifications expected to rise.

The world your learners are entering looks very different to the one it did five years ago. AI, cyber security, and sustainability are no longer niche topics, they are part of everyday working life.

We have embedded new content across our most popular qualifications, from Entry Level to Level 2, so centres can address these areas without overhauling their existing programmes. Free delivery resources are included, and standalone microcredentials are available where you want more flexibility.

Assessing SEND learners meaningfully matters, and the "Every Child Achieving and Thriving" White Paper is clear on how that should look.

Structured discussions, applied tasks, and portfolio components are highlighted as the most meaningful ways to capture genuine learner capability.

OCN London's SEND qualifications are predominantly evidence and portfolio-based, reflecting exactly the kind of applied, real-world assessment that works for SEND learners. If your organisation is looking for qualifications built around that approach, we already offer them.
