Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, and this year’s theme is Changing the Narrative. For over two decades Changing the Narrative around su***de has been a key part of Maytree’s mission - and will once again be a core part of our mission when we reopen later in the year.
By providing those who are experiencing suicidal crisis a place of respite, care, and nurture, along with the attention of compassionate and non-judgemental volunteers, Maytree guests are given the opportunity to speak about and reflect on their lives and what has brought them to this moment. Whilst the time limited stay Maytree is a once-in-a-lifetime offer, it can be fundamental in helping those who are facing a suicidal crisis, change the narrative around their lives and suicidal ideation, and can be a key component in enabling recovery.
The Maytree team is continuing to work hard to reopen our house, so we can once again provide respite, nurture and support to those who are experiencing suicidal crisis. Renovations of our house are well underway and we are hoping to reopen our doors later in the year. If you would like to volunteer with us when we reopen, please email [email protected] to express your interest.
We are also continuing to fundraise for our renovation and re-opening costs via our Justgiving page. If you are able to support this campaign either through a small donation or through sharing this post, we would be hugely grateful.

The Maytree Respite Centre offers short-time residential care to individuals experiencing suicidal crisis. The service was forced to close in March 2023 but is now aiming to reopen this Autumn, and needs your help to fund critical reopening costs.
