Every year thousands of abandoned dogs end up in local authority pounds.

Q) Do you know how many of those end up euthanised?

A) No

The reason is that local authorities do not keep accurate records, some keep none at all.

That has to change as without accurate data deaths will continue to silently increase and government will continue to push back and want this information to remain secret.

June is Microchipping Awareness Month and today we want to remind responsible breeders and rescue organisations to PLEASE register your ongoing commitment and safety net via a DEFRA compliant microchip database.

So many are still relying on adoption contracts which are not accessible if your dog or cat is in a vulnerable situation. Your contact information on a microchip is available upon a scan and search.

Please if you are a responsible breeder know that just because DEFRA have stated you must be registered as the breeder that does not constitute anyone knowing you provide Rescue Back Up (back up registration). It must be registered in the separate field that many databases now provide.

This is such a heartbreaking situation for Green and his breeder and it’s a hugely disappointing response from the Dogs Trust who themselves do not register any ongoing support via the microchip registration.

There’s no traceability now for Green so if his new adopter cannot care for him going forward he will likely end up in an already broken rescue system or worse a pound.

MAKE THE MICROCHIP WORK FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG OR CAT.

This petition is so close now to reaching a parliamentary debate.

Recently we’ve seen a few high profile “rescue” organisations redact on their Rescue Back Up commitment.

These are high profile and established charities so when we see a rescue organisation who is actively endeavouring to provide the support they promised rather than walking away we are proud to support them 👇

This is an area that both Sue and myself feel desperately passionate about having campaigned on it ourselves and having been involved in rescuing from abroad for 13 years.

We have personally seen the desperate situations these mutilated dogs are being left in (let’s not start on our thoughts about leaving puppies in kill shelters 🤬).

Please meet Bruce. Bruce is under a rescue- he went to his first home and got on wonderful, he was there for 3 years his owners had a baby and Bruce’s nose was put out a little bit and when the baby was on the move the owners began to struggle so he went back into the rescue.

Bruce went to the 2nd home he was there 2 weeks and it was Christmas Day which can be overwhelming for any dog let alone a new dog in a new home.

Grandad and Bruce was alone and grandad took the kong from Bruce - unfortunately Bruce didn’t like his kong being taken so he bit and he was returned to the rescue

Bruce’s 4th home was an adult only home parents and two sons in there 20s.

Bruce has a high prey drive and he was trying to chase squirrels whilst on the lead and was a bit grumpy with one of the sons so he was returned again.

Due to this his rescue have scheduled to put him to sleep! I’m not naming the rescue as this is going to take it away from Bruce and the main priority is getting Bruce safe.

I’ve spoken to a volunteer at the rescue today and she said Bruce loves everyone he meets.

Bruce is dog friendly however he does prefer female dogs.

Bruce has been neutered

Bruce is a medium breed he’s around 22kg

We need to urgently try and get Bruce a lifeline as he is going to die.
