Today is a day that we should be celebrating. Instead we are just sad at all the years that have been lost….
Today is Tuks 10th birthday.
If only are 2 very powerful, very common words and those of you who have lost someone dear to you, human or animal, will know so very well how excruciatingly painful these words are in the days, months and years that pass after your loss.
This is no different. If only the vet had scanned, if only his rescue had been contacted, if only they’d had the chance to save him, if only he’d been taken anywhere but where he was, with anyone but who he was with.
Tuks rescue back up details were on his chip. They were up to date and in full working order. They would have acted immediately to get him safe if only they’d known he was at risk. But their contact details were never used and as we all know, he was killed. He could have lived. He should have lived.
Since we started this campaign in Tuks name we have discovered so many things that are wrong with the microchip system, including the fact that an authorised database user like a rescue, can alter or remove another rescues rbu on a microchip, without informing them first.
This is shocking and must be banned. Where is the point in a rescue doing the right thing and providing a guaranteed safety net for the animal they care about, to want to contacted if needed to save them, if their details can be so easily removed, which puts that animals life at immediate risk.
There is nothing worse for a caring, dedicated rescue who love and want to protect those they save and rehome than hearing one of those animals has lost their life, when the safety net they provide, the provision of lifetime rescue back up, is there and was not honoured.
So we want this practice to be banned. RBU on a microchip must be banned from being removed by anyone without written agreement from that RBU first.
