We will not stop talking about the forgotten people of Sudan. People die faster when powerful countries think they can get something out of a war. That’s the blunt truth of what’s going on in Sudan. In 2011 the UN gave a green light to interfere with the civil unrest in Libya. UN Security Council Resolution 1973 authorised force to “protect civilians” in Libya.
Why is it seemingly difficult to do the same to protect Sudanese civilians? Since April 2023 to date, independent investigators, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty have documented foreign made weapons and supply lines feeding the brutal militias yet no comparable coalition intervenes. Why? Because powerful states are divided, the Security Council can’t agree on a Chapter-VII mandate, and some regional players implicated in supply chains complicate any push for force. In short: political calculation, not principle, decides who gets aid and who gets bombs.

If “protect civilians” truly means anything, it must mean equal protection and not protection filtered through alliances and convenience. Share this to create awareness about what’s going on in Sudan

We mourn the passing of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, the renowned Kenyan author, playwright, and outspoken advocate for African languages and decolonisation, who has died at the age of 87.

Ngũgĩ was more than a writer. He was a revolutionary force in African literature. His novels, plays, and essays gave powerful voice to the struggles and resilience of African people under colonial and post-colonial rule. From Weep Not, Child to Petals of Blood and Decolonising the Mind, Ngũgĩ challenged systems of oppression, insisting that African stories be told in African languages.

He famously renounced writing in English, turning instead to Gikuyu, his mother tongue, as an act of cultural reclamation. His commitment to language, justice, and the dignity of African identity made him a towering figure not only in Kenya but across the continent and the globe.

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of readers, writers, and thinkers in Africa and beyond. May his words endure, and may his spirit of resistance and hope live on.

RIP LEGEND

Lately, you’ve probably noticed more African music on this page. That’s intentional. Music is one of the purest expressions of who we are as a people. It carries our history, our emotions, and our connection to each other. Whether it’s a traditional sound or something new, African music speaks to the heart of our identity.

Sharing it is a way of reminding ourselves—and the world—that Africa is rich, alive, and full of rhythm. It’s part of restoring pride, unity, and joy in who we are.

Keep listening. Keep feeling. This is Africa, through sound. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Ak4PuyhHg/?mibextid=wwXIfr
