The Government’s refreshed Women’s Health Strategy for England shows what sustained, evidence‑led advocacy driven by the CoSRH Hatfield Vision can achieve.

Our CoSRH top takeaways set out the progress secured across sexual and reproductive healthcare, from recognising contraception as a lifelong health need, improved access to LARC, to action on pain during gynaecological procedures.

But there remains a critical gap. Post‑pregnancy contraception is still being delayed, leaving women waiting.

Progress is possible, but the next phase matters. We’re committed to shaping the upcoming SRH Framework, its timelines and its impact.

The Women’s Health Strategy delivers real progress across key areas such as contraception, pain relief and abortion care. But delays to post‑pregnancy contraception provision mean women are still waiting.

Our latest blog by Harry Walker, Director of External Affairs, explains what this moment means and what must happen next.

The refreshed Women’s Health Strategy for England marks real progress for sexual and reproductive health.

We welcome strong commitments long championed by CoSRH such as recognising contraception as a lifelong health need, expanding access to the most effective forms of contraception, and finally tackling pain during gynaecological procedures. Pain should never be part of the plan.

But there are still gaps. Post‑pregnancy contraception remains delayed, pushed into future frameworks when women need support now. And while women’s health hubs are being streamlined into neighbourhood women’s health services, this must build on — and not dilute — the success of established hubs.

This Strategy is a step forward, but CoSRH will keep pushing to turn commitments into care.

Our Director of External Affairs, Harry Walker, unpacks what this Strategy delivers in our latest blog: 2026 Women’s Health Strategy Nearly Elevates Contraceptive Care to Modern Times.

We were delighted to be represented by our CEO Jo Tanner in Westminster today to help welcome the renewed Women's Health Strategy.

"There's a lot to like in the new Women's Health Strategy, a lot that we as a College we can be proud of bringing to the fore. We’ve heard clearly from women about where care needs to improve, including action on pain during coil fittings, which we can definitely chalk up as a win for the College. The lack of clarity around post-pregnancy contraception is disappointing, but our determination to make it happen isn't wavering."

"In Wes Streeting's own words, a lot done, but a lot still to do. Our commitment to women's health, including supporting the dedicated SRH workforce, continues, and we will be holding the Government to account to make sure this strategy is more than just words on a page - that it becomes positive, meaningful action to improve the lives of women and girls." - Jo said

📅 Today marks meaningful progress for women’s health in England

The refreshed Women’s Health Strategy presents a significant opportunity to improve sexual and reproductive healthcare through expanded access to effective contraception and a clear commitment to tackling procedural pain in line with our Pain Shouldn’t Be Part of the Plan campaign.

While there are welcome commitments, it remains disappointing that clearer action on post-pregnancy contraception has been deferred, despite the well evidenced, life-changing impact this support can have for women.

We look forward to continuing to push for progress through our advocacy work and working with partners to ensure this Strategy delivers for women across England.
