A big thank you to everyone who joined Manasi and Sue for the World on the Upper Terrace walk on Sunday ☀️

It was a wonderfully open and creative group, who brought real imagination to the experience - even with the remaining statues covered in tarpaulin. There were so many thoughtful conversations along the way.

Thanks also to The Paxton Centre for looking after the sudden coffee rush when we all arrived!

Join walk leader Manasi Pophale of History Speak for a guided walk and conversation exploring the lost Upper Terrace statues of Crystal Palace Park.

📅 Sunday 17 May, 11am-1pm
🎫 Book your spot: https://www.facebook.com/events/968833225684555

Once standing where the Sphinxes are today, these 24 figures represented major industrial nations and cities, offering a snapshot of how the world was viewed when the Crystal Palace opened in Sydenham in 1854.

Through an illustrated walk along the terrace, Manasi will bring these vanished statues back to life, unpacking how ideas of Empire, race and nation were expressed through them.

The session will end at The Paxton Centre with refreshments, time for reflection, and a chance to explore archive images up close.
