A huge thank you to everyone who came down yesterday to support our community “shout out” to help tackle the growing problem of invasive aquatic w**ds on the River Thames and River Brent in Brentford.

Working alongside volunteers from the and the Hounslow Green Party , over 20 volunteers gave up their time over two hours to help us remove large amounts of aquatic w**d, including floating pennywort, duckw**d, water fern and blanket w**d.

A special thank you to Cllr for coming down, getting involved and taking the time to listen to our concerns, and to the for their support and help organising the day.

The River Brent plays a vital role in our community watersports projects, providing an important local space where we can introduce young people and the wider community to rowing, canoeing, kayaking and other activities on the water. Protecting and improving this environment is therefore hugely important to us.

At Brentford Community Boathouse, we pride ourselves on being part of our local community. Alongside getting people active on the water, we want to support community and environmental projects that help protect and improve the waterways we all enjoy.

If you have a local community or environmental project that you think we could support or get involved with, please get in touch.

Help us make Brentford a better place and protect our local environment.

Thank you again to every volunteer who made the day possible!

🌊 WEEK FOUR OF OUR SUMMER ON THE WATER in 🚣‍♀️☀️

We’re now into week four of our summer programme at Brentford Community Boathouse, and it’s been fantastic to welcome over 247 participants onto our activities so far this summer!

We’ve been running a combination of open camps for the public, our HAF programme funded by Hounslow Council, and a whole range of community activities both on the water and on land.

From rowing, canoeing and sprint kayaking to paddleboarding and activities exploring our local waterways, it’s all part of celebrating Brentford Community Boathouse being ON THE WATER this summer! 💦

This week is also the final week of our HAF camps, and it’s been great to see so many young people getting active, trying new sports and enjoying everything our local waterways have to offer.

A huge thank you to our brilliant coaches, volunteers, partners and everyone who has taken part and helped make this summer possible!

🌊 **Three successful weeks — and 194 participants!**

With the support of the **HAF programme**, we have given local Hounslow children the opportunity to try watersports that can often feel difficult to access.

Taking those first steps can be challenging, but we are incredibly proud of how every young person has persevered, grown in confidence and developed fantastic balance, control and stability across a range of craft.

Our aim has been to grow participation each week — and we are delighted to have now welcomed **194 local participants!**

A huge thank you to our brilliant coaches for making every session safe, supportive and enjoyable. 👏

A big thank you to London Borough of Hounslow, Hounslow Summer of Culture, Paddle UK and for helping make these opportunities possible for local young people.

What an incredible first week! 🚣‍♀️🛶

95 children and young people have already taken to the water, learning new skills, building confidence and enjoying rowing, kayaking and canoeing with our team.

This summer, we are proud to be delivering activities through Hounslow’s Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF). The programme provides funded holiday activities and nutritious food for eligible children, particularly those receiving benefits-related free school meals. It gives young people access to safe, enriching experiences that support their health, wellbeing and learning during the school holidays. London Borough of Hounslow

For many of the children attending, this has been their first opportunity to experience watersports. It has been wonderful to watch them overcome nerves, make new friends and become more confident on the water with every session.

Most importantly, HAF is creating much more than a one-off holiday experience. It provides a genuine pathway into Brentford Canoe Club, where new participants can continue paddling each week, develop their skills and become long-term members of our watersports community.

We are already seeing children who arrived as complete beginners asking how they can continue after the summer—and that is exactly the lasting impact we hoped this programme would create.

Week One: 95 children on the water—and we are only just getting started! ❤️

A huge thank you to our coaches, volunteers, families and everyone at Hadley Property Group who has helped make this possible.

☀️ Summer Camp Update – Day 2! 🚣🛶

What an amazing start to the summer! Over 65 children have already been out on the water with us, enjoying rowing, canoeing and kayaking on the Grand Union Canal in Brentford and the River Thames.

There are still places available over the coming weeks, so if your child would love to try a new sport, make new friends, build confidence and enjoy an unforgettable summer on the water, we’d love to welcome them!

Our sessions are designed to introduce young people to watersports in a fun, safe and supportive environment, with opportunities to continue their journey by joining one of our community clubs.

📩 For more information or to book a place, send us a message or visit www.bcbh.org.uk.

A big thank you to London Borough of Hounslow, Hounslow Summer of Culture, Paddle UK, and British Rowing for helping make these opportunities possible for local young people.

Please like, share and tag a family or friend who might be interested—we’d love to get even more children out on the water this summer! 🌊💙

We are incredibly proud to have completed the first school programme of Thames Pathways, our new Active Thames-supported project delivered by Brentford Community Boat House.
The project aims to give local young people inclusive access to the river, introduce them to watersports, improve their confidence and teamwork, and help them understand more about Brentford’s waterways, wildlife, history and environment. The wider programme also creates pathways for young people to progress into coaching and leadership.
During the programme, pupils took part in:
🚣 Fixed-seat and sliding-seat rowing – learning boat control, rowing technique, teamwork and communication.
🛶 Kayaking and canoeing – developing paddling skills, confidence, balance and safe boat handling.
🛟 River safety and navigation – understanding risk awareness, capsize procedures and how to enjoy our waterways responsibly.
🌱 River ecology and environmental learning – exploring local wildlife, river health, pollution, waste management and the importance of protecting our blue spaces.
🧹 Clean River activities – encouraging young people to take responsibility for their local environment and help care for the waterways.

A huge thank you to Green Dragon Primary School and The Green School for Boys for working with us and giving their pupils the opportunity to experience, learn from and enjoy their local river.
We would also like to thank Active Thames and the Port of London Authority for supporting this project and helping us make watersports, river education and new opportunities more accessible to young people across Hounslow.
This is only the beginning, and we are excited to continue building stronger connections between our schools, our community and the river. 💙

🌊 A milestone we're incredibly proud of! 💙

This summer marks a huge step forward for Brentford Community Boat House.

For the first time, children across Hounslow will have the opportunity to take part in a borough-wide 🚣HAF Watersports Programme🥳 giving young people the chance to get out on the water, learn new skills, make friends, enjoy healthy meals, and discover the amazing waterways right on their doorstep.

As a charity, we're incredibly proud of how far we've come. What started as a vision to make watersports accessible to everyone has grown into a programme that is creating opportunities for local children and families across our community.

A huge thank you👏 goes to everyone who has supported us on this journey – our volunteers, coaches, trustees, schools, families, partners and funders. We simply couldn't do it without you.

We're especially proud to be working alongside 💜Hounslow Council💜 this summer to deliver this exciting programme for local residents, helping more young people experience the physical, mental and environmental benefits of being on the water.

A special thank you also goes to Hadley Property Group for believing in our vision and supporting us in creating a permanent home where this programme can grow and thrive.

This is the first time Hounslow has delivered a watersports programme like this through the HAF programme, and we're honoured to be part of making it happen.

This is just the beginning, and we can't wait to welcome hundreds of young people onto the water over the coming weeks!
