Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama is criticizing the denial of visas to President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian delegation, saying it sets a bad precedent and should worry all UN member nations.

Here’s why it’s significant:

1. UN Principles: The UN was built on the idea that all member states and observers can participate in its discussions. Blocking a delegation from attending undermines that principle of inclusivity and equal representation.

2. Diplomatic Protocol: Denying visas to official representatives — especially for a UN meeting — is unusual and seen as a breach of established diplomatic norms.

3. Precedent for Future Exclusions: Mahama’s concern about a “bad precedent” reflects fears that if one delegation can be denied access, others could face similar treatment in the future, potentially weakening the UN’s neutrality.

4. Impact on Peace and Dialogue: Given the sensitivity of the Palestinian issue, barring their delegation could hinder dialogue on peace and security, which the UN is supposed to facilitate.

In short, it’s not just about one delegation’s visas — it raises broader questions about fairness, international law, and the credibility of global institutions.

I couldn’t agree more with my President John Dramani Mahama on this point! Some months ago, I raised a question across my social media platforms: Why does Africa still not have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council?

Why should the power of a single nation’s veto continue to shape global decisions—often to serve its own interests—while an entire continent remains without a permanent voice at the table?

The time for change is now. Mr. President, my love for you has deepened. My love for you has deepened. I deeply appreciate your bold stance at this meeting—it reflects the urgency and courage this moment demands. You deserve a heartfelt hug for speaking up so powerfully. 🫂

What are your thoughts—should the UN Security Council be reformed to reflect today’s global realities?

Today, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, led a special clean-up exercise across the Kumasi Metropolis in preparation for the funeral of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2025.

The exercise aimed to keep Kumasi clean, dignified, and welcoming for mourners and visitors joining Asanteman to honor the memory of the late Queenmother. The Mayor personally participated by desilting gutters, showing true leadership and commitment.

Massive participation came from youth groups including the Ashanti Youth Association, Kumasi Youth Association, and Kejetia Petty Traders Association, alongside Senior High Schools such as Kumasi Anglican SHS, Asanteman SHS, Bantama SDA SHS, and Islamic SHS.

Assembly Members mobilized their areas, covering key locations like Ash-Town, Dichemso, Amakom, Asafo, Adum, Nhyiaeso, Dr. Mensah, Mmrom, K.O Odumasi, Alabar, Manhyia Extension, Bantama, Cultural Centre, and Waec Drain (Akwatia Line).

This initiative reflects KMA’s commitment to preserving Kumasi’s beauty, dignity, and cultural heritage as the city prepares to host thousands for the royal funeral rites.

A Nation in Grief. A Heart Heavy with Loss. 🕊️🇬🇭

Today, we mourn not only as individuals, but as a nation shaken to its core.

We remember with deep sorrow the lives of:

1. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

2. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation

3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

4. Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman, National Democratic Congress (NDC)

5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Atwima Nwabiagya South

6. Squadron Leader Peter Mawuli Ofori, Ghana Air Force

7. Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force

8. Sergeant Ernest Addo, Ghana Air Force

My heart is especially heavy at the loss of my dear friend, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed — a man whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering selflessness touched so many. His service to Ghana was marked by integrity, humility, and a deep love for people and country.

This is a painful moment for all of us. We grieve not just the loss of leaders and patriots, but of sons, brothers, and friends.

May their legacies live on in the hope they gave, the lives they shaped, and the future they fought for.

May their souls rest in perfect peace. 🕊️🇬🇭

A Royal Farewell – The Family of Daddy Lumba Pays Tribute

In a moment heavy with sorrow yet adorned with deep respect, the family of the late legendary Ghanaian musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu – affectionately known as Daddy Lumba – journeyed to the Manhyia Palace to officially inform His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, of their irreplaceable loss.

Clad in solemn black and red, the traditional colours of mourning, the family entered the royal courtyard with reverence and dignity. Among them were his children, siblings, and close kin—each carrying both grief and gratitude. As custom demands, they came not only to share their pain but to seek the blessing and wisdom of the Asantehene, whose presence signifies continuity, heritage, and communal strength in times of loss.

In a quiet but poignant ceremony, the family presented traditional drinks and symbolic items, accompanied by heartfelt words that honoured Daddy Lumba’s monumental legacy—not just as a musical genius, but as a proud son of Asanteman. His timeless songs, voice of velvet, and unwavering love for his roots echoed far beyond Ghana’s borders, uniting generations through music and memory.

Otumfuo received them with grace and solemnity. In his words of comfort, he acknowledged Daddy Lumba’s unmatched contribution to Ghanaian culture and reminded all present that although a star has fallen, his legacy shall forever shine across the lands and in the hearts of his people.

As drums beat softly and the air swelled with remembrance, this sacred visit marked not just the announcement of a passing, but a royal farewell to a son of the soil. It was a moment where tradition embraced tribute, and a king stood with his people to honour one of Asanteman’s most gifted souls.

Rest well, Daddy Lumba. Your music lives on.

OBITUARY: Remembering the Legendary Daddy Lumba

Ghana has lost a true musical icon. Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, has passed away, leaving behind a timeless legacy of music, love, and cultural influence.

From his groundbreaking debut album Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu in 1989 with Nana Acheampong to his chart-topping solo hits like Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, Pl***oy, and the powerful gospel works Mesom Jesus and Fa Woho Bo Jesus, Daddy Lumba graced the nation with over 200 unforgettable songs across more than 30 albums.

A trailblazer in Ghanaian highlife, his soulful lyrics and unique voice resonated across generations. Collaborating with legends like Ofori Amponsah, Felix Owusu, Great Ampong, and Afua Ampofowaa, he continually reinvented his sound while staying rooted in the Ghanaian spirit.

Today, we mourn not just an artiste, but a national treasure. May his music continue to speak where words fall short, and may his soul rest in perfect peace.

Living in Ghana and Pricing in Dollars: A Frustration to the Economy

The increasing habit of quoting prices in US dollars within Ghana is creating unnecessary pressure on the local economy. It’s frustrating, especially for ordinary citizens who earn in cedis but are expected to pay in dollars for rent, services, or goods. This practice undermines economic stability, fuels inflation, and widens inequality.

Enter The Wisdom Cup—a symbol of smart economic decisions. If embraced, it can help restore balance and confidence in our local currency and economic system.

To landlords in Legon, Dzorwulu, and Cantonments demanding rent in dollars: perhaps it’s time to relocate your properties to the United States if you insist on dollar earnings. Ghana operates on the Ghana cedi. Let’s respect and strengthen our currency by trading and transacting in it.
