This summer, we were delighted to welcome two students and thank them for their work experience at Refugee Action Kingston.

We're excited to be part of a city-wide effort to support young Londoners this summer. ✨

Funding from London's Violence Reduction Unit is helping us provide more activities, trusted adults and positive opportunities for young people during the school holidays when support matters most.

Through the Stronger Futures programme, we will be delivering our award-winning Bright Futures project supporting young refugees and children seeking asylum in Kingston.

📖 75 Years of the Refugee Convention

This year marks 75 years since the 1951 Refugee Convention—a landmark international agreement that established the rights of refugees and the responsibilities of countries to protect those fleeing persecution.

Today, the Convention remains as important as ever.

Behind every policy and legal framework are real people: individuals and families forced to leave their homes because of war, conflict, persecution or violence, seeking safety and the chance to rebuild their lives.

At Refugee Action Kingston, we see the impact of this every day. We support refugees and people seeking asylum to navigate complex systems, access advice and opportunities, build confidence, and become active members of our community.

The Refugee Convention is about more than protection. It is about dignity, safety, and the opportunity to rebuild a future.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we have successfully exceeded our fundraising target, raising £10,140 for our Financial Wellbeing Campaign! 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, shared our campaign, cheered on The RAK Pack, and helped spread the word.

Special thanks to the Aviva Community Fund for their match funding support and to Crowdfunder for helping us bring this campaign to life.

Because of your support, more refugees and people seeking asylum will be able to access advice, support, education and employment opportunities to help them build stable, independent lives.

🚣‍♂️ And what a finish! Our Dragon Boat Race team placed 5th overall in the Mixed Category, helping us celebrate this achievement in style.

What a day for The RAK Pack! 🚣‍♂️💙

On Sunday, our amazing team of staff, volunteers, supporters, community members and a Refugee Action Kingston client took part in the 2026 Kingston Dragon Boat Race Festival, and we're delighted to share that The RAK Pack finished 5th overall in the Mixed Category! 🎉

After weeks of training on the Thames, the team showed incredible determination, teamwork and resilience, helping make the day a huge success both on and off the water.

As one member of The RAK Pack put it:
"The race was challenging, exciting and inspiring. What made it special wasn't just being on the water—it was knowing that every paddle stroke was helping support refugees and people seeking asylum in our community. The team spirit was amazing, and I'm incredibly proud of what we achieved together."

And there was even more reason to celebrate...

🎉 Thanks to your incredible support, we also reached 100% of our £10,000 fundraising target!

This means more refugees and people seeking asylum can access:
✅ Welfare and housing advice
✅ Financial wellbeing support
✅ Education and employment pathways
✅ Community activities that build confidence, connection and independence

At Refugee Action Kingston, we see every day the positive impact that welcome, dignity and community support can have on people rebuilding their lives. We also see the kindness shown by local residents who choose solidarity over division.

Together with organisations large and small, we believe that everyone deserves to be treated with humanity, respect and hope.

We are stronger when we come together to support our neighbours, challenge misinformation, and build communities where everyone can belong.

📣 Dragon Boat Race Weekend

🚣‍♂️ The RAK Pack is ready to paddle for a purpose! 🚣‍♀️

This Sunday 19 July, our incredible team of staff, trustees, volunteers, a RAK client and local community members will be taking on the Kingston Dragon Boat Race Festival at Canbury Gardens.

Over the past few weeks, the team has been training hard on the Thames, preparing for a day of teamwork, community spirit and fundraising for Refugee Action Kingston.

This year's race is about more than crossing the finish line. We're raising funds to help refugees and people seeking asylum rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and independence through advice, support and pathways into education and employment.

💙 Last year, we supported 1,365 beneficiaries and helped people access welfare advice, housing support, English classes, employment opportunities and much more.

🎉 Thanks to our amazing supporters, we've already reached 84% of our £10,000 fundraising target.
