Thanks to the digital revolution, the organisation of resources and labour is moving away from institutional and centralised models, towards networked models: Uber doesn’t own taxis, AirBnB doesn’t own hotel rooms, Facebook doesn’t produce content. Because networked models enable demand to find supply more efficiently. A plethora of transition support and opportunities
The MOD, through its Career
Transition Partnership (CTP), is the only organisation in the UK that puts so much time, effort and money to help its people leave. It does this because it has a duty of care towards service leavers, and supporting them enables it to build trust with both the serving and retired community. The range of CTP services available to service leavers is complemented by a range of charities that help the government to support the most needy. Meanwhile, civil society is also stepping up to help the MOD and the charities to support our veterans and servicemen and women, in recognition of the service they have given, with dozens of initiatives across the country. TRANSITION FORCE: CONNECTIN HUMAN BEINGS
Transition Force is a platform that enables demand to find supply; where veterans can engage with civil society – employers, service providers, individuals – to help them find careers through mentoring, work placements and jobs – working in tandem with CTP and the charities to ensure veterans and service leavers have access to the best opportunities for them AS INDIVIDUALS. The platform is agnostic to politics and agendas – it simply provides a highly efficient and user-friendly environment where the demand of veterans and service leavers can meet the supply of career solutions. It is there to COMPLEMENT the existing landscape and make the flow of value even more efficient. THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE CONCEPT
The concept is being brought together by four key individuals:
• Richard Tyrie – a tech entrepreneur who built the largest public sector recruitment platform in the UK – filling 50% of all government roles in the 2000s; adviser to the cabinet office; and trustee of UnLtd
• Ed Janvrin – a former Gurkha officer and PwC consultant who managed the delivery of the Invictus Games 2014, has raised over £1m for armed forces charities, and is a member of the Endeavour Fund board
• Gavin Hughes – former CEO and business owner, Vice Chair of the Catalyst Club (a fundraising committee within CRUK) and now a social entrepreneur and angel investor
• Caroline Waters – recently retired Director of People and Policy at BT, and deputy chair of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission
STRUCTURE
The Transition Force concept was born of the work Richard has done over the last two years, through his groundbreaking social enterprise GoodPeople, with BT. BT is thus a founding partner, alongside GoodPeople, of the Transition Force concept. Transition Force Ltd is a social enterprise, soon to have B-Corp accreditation, that espouses the principles of responsible capitalism. By being a for-profit enterprise, it is able to raise capital more efficiently, reinvest profits to enable preferential access for charities/MOD, and retain the best talent – accelerating social impact.
