Today the Well Centre team attended the London Violence Reduction Unit’s (VRU) “Shifting Systems” conference, to discuss how to improve hospital-based youth work (HBYW).

💚 The VRU brought together the Metropolitan Police, NHS, local authorities, and youth work practitioners and providers to coordinate and improve vulnerable young people’s experience with care. The VRU has just published a report on the root issues in HBYW, with recommendations on how they can be solved. We were there to promote bringing in a youth focus across primary care; taking care from hospitals and into the community. It was inspiring to speak with so many individuals across the public sector all committed to keeping young people healthy, safe and happy by tackling youth violence.

The Well Centre Charity team attended the Lambeth MyEnds symposium, which convenes local young peoples’ charities to end Lambeth’s youth violence crisis.

💚 It was great to be with so many hard-working people with the collective aim of keeping young people happy, safe and healthy. We discussed how our services can be better linked up to other charities to create a holistic approach to support young people in all areas of their lives. Thank you to Ecosystem for convening and to Helen Hayes for chairing.

It was great to be invited to Parliament today to meet Margaret Mullane for Dagenham and Rainham, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, to discuss how the Well Centre can be scaled nationally.

💚 Barking and Dagenham currently has the highest proportion of under-16s in the UK and is experiencing the fastest growth in its young population within London. Margaret spoke with our team about the challenges GPs face in providing primary care for young people, and how the Well Centre Model can provide both local and national solutions to some of these problems.

💬 If you’re interested in youth health please do get in touch – either through our DMs or at [email protected] – to see how the Well Centre Model could be used to keep young people safe and happy in your community.
