We don’t know if what we’ve already done will ever be seen as ‘enough’.

Just at Makwasinyi in the last eighteen months we have donated or paid for:

- 11,000+ kg of foodstuffs
- creation of a kitchen garden
- 30,000 litres water storage capacity
- classroom furniture for 100 pupils
- extensive repairs to classroom windows, floors and ceilings
- an office printer
- repairs to the boys’ toilets plus construction of a handwash station
- improvements to water tap stations
- and more!

Perhaps we should take it as a compliment that we always get asked to do more and a recognition of the fact that we so often deliver when so many others, including the government, turn a blind eye.

But we won’t pretend that receiving comments like this - on a post about something we are already doing to help the school - isn’t a bit tiresome.

Improvements are being made to some water points at Makwasinyi using funds from AP.

The drainage area of an existing point has been repaired and a soakaway has been installed to help keep the area dry and free if waste/stagnant water.

Meanwhile a new water station is being constructed at a tank adjacent to the ECD, which will increase the number of taps from a solitary tap to four and also provide a drainage area and soakaway as above.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of lunchtime at Mkamenyi!

The lunch programme is back in full-swing at the school after a short hiatus following withdrawal of our 100% support at the end of last year.

All parents are providing food and AP will also be donating some funds from The Ratanben Zaverchand Kara Foundation for food for the remainder of the current term.

All children at our eight partner schools are once again receiving a lunchtime meal at school.

Some schools have taken longer to reach a point where all parents are contributing by providing food or funds but we believe - although cannot verify with absolute certainty - that is now the case at all schools.

We have committed to providing support towards the programme where this condition is met and therefore expect to provide a financial contribution to all schools for this current term, with the help of some of our most loyal partners and funders, on top of the donations we made to five schools for term one.

The extent to which the lunch programme would continue at each school was one of our main concerns when we ended our 100% support for the programme at the end of last year so it is hugely encouraging to be in this situation just a few months on.

Funds from AP are being used to continue work on new staff toilets at Makwasinyi.

Initially we have donated KES 55,000 (£325) to pay for bricks and blocks and for lining and capping of a pit for a ‘septic tank’ which parents had excavated.

We will donate funds for further works as-and-when we have them available.

It’s not just greens and vegetables growing in our partner schools’ kitchen gardens.

They also include space for banana plants and other fruit trees such as this papaya.

Papaya is a highly nutritious tropical fruit with numerous health benefits. It is packed with vitamins A, C, and E, which boost immunity, enhance skin health, and provide powerful antioxidants to reduce inflammation, whilst its key enzyme, papain, aids digestion by breaking down protein, and its high fiber content helps manage cholesterol and supports gut health. 🧡

We have donated funds to five of our eight partner schools so far this year towards the cost of purchasing food for lunchtime meals.

Those schools are Ngambenyi, Kiteghe, Rukanga, Kisimenyi and Makwasinyi.

We have not made any donations to Jora, Mkamenyi or Bungule because we have not been asked for our support and/or because parents are not making any contributions of their own (which is conditional for our support).

Planting banana plants near water tanks and standpipes is a beneficial way to ensure water run-off from taps and overflows does not entirely go to waste.

When they get to this height their large leaves can also provide shade - protecting tanks and water from the sun’s harmful rays.
