A big thank you to the .economics.society and for hosting the Student Impact Series III.

It was great to see students and young professionals come together to engage on issues shaping Africa’s future.

Our Co-Founder, , joined the panel to share perspectives from the climate policy space, alongside fellow panelists .ntshingane, Khudu, Manthe and a dynamic moderator who guided an engaging conversation.

Appreciation as well to the organising team for delivering such a well-curated event.

One takeaway: the future belongs to those who step into the conversation.

Standing with science doesn’t end on one day, it continues in how we show up every month.

This World Health Day, joined the global community in a commitment to . The 2026 theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” reminds us that human health is deeply connected to the health of our environment, what we know as the One Health approach.

Following Botswana’s recent National Clean-Up Campaign, we are reminded that climate change and environmental degradation are not just ecological issues but public health challenges affecting our communities today.

By taking part in clean-up efforts and restoring our surroundings, we are actively:
- Reducing vector-borne risks by limiting breeding grounds for disease.
- Building climate resilience by preventing pollution and infrastructure strain.
- Advancing environmental justice by ensuring cleaner, safer spaces for all

This is what climate action looks like at a community level. This is what One Health in action looks like.

We continue to urge all Batswana to take part in this national effort, not just as a civic duty, but as a scientific intervention that protects people, ecosystems, and future generations.

See you next month on the 9th of May.

On this , we spotlight , an atmospheric scientist whose work helps us better understand the systems shaping our climate. Through his work, Mokgobi represents a future where science, data, and early warning systems empower communities to anticipate and respond to climate risks before they become disasters. His vision reflects a world where informed decisions today lead to safer, more resilient communities tomorrow.

From tracking weather patterns to strengthening early warning systems, atmospheric science plays a critical role in helping communities prepare, adapt, and build resilience.
But there’s also something we can all take from this: pay attention to your environment, take weather warnings seriously and value information as a tool for protection.

At , we recognise that observation is the foundation of protection because, what we understand today is what we can respond to tomorrow.

At the CHAABO Climate Resilience Hackathon, our mentee , known for her work in environmental research, and the leader of Team Motswedi Smart won 1st Prize for their flood resilience solution. She presented remotely, with , a climate communication specialist and assigned mentor for the hackathon, accepting the award on her behalf.

Shoutout to all teams from the hackathon advancing climate solutions: Team Sentinel, Green Arc Creations, and all finalists. With ongoing rains and flood risks in Botswana, solutions like these matter more than ever.

Our appreciation also goes to the judges and organisers of the Chaabo 2026 Climate Resilience Hackathon for creating space for youth innovation and for recognising solutions that respond to Botswana’s evolving climate realities.
