Last Thursday, our Executive Director, Harriet Wheeler, was delighted to join the Provincial Priory of Hertfordshire for dinner following their Annual Meeting, where members celebrated the third year of their Centenary Appeal.

Under the overarching banner of the Great Priory, the Appeal aims to raise £100,000 over 10 years in support of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, helping to fund the salary of a dedicated nurse, ensuring patients continue to receive the expert care they need.

An incredible £73,000 has already been raised in just three years.

We are profoundly grateful to the Provincial Priory of Hertfordshire and to everyone who has supported the appeal. Your generosity is helping us to continue restoring sight and transforming lives across Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.

Thank you for your warm hospitality and steadfast support of SJEHG.

We were honoured to be joined yesterday for St John’s Day by some very esteemed guests!

Her Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury and The Most Reverend the Archbishop of Jerusalem, with a delegation from the Cathedral, took part in our St John’s Day service in the chapel of our Jerusalem Hospital. The service was followed by a staff breakfast in the beautiful hospital gardens.

Our Sir Stephen Miller School of Nursing at St John Eye Hospital is the oldest provider of expert Ophthalmic Nursing Training in the Middle East, with over 185 graduates since its establishment in 1998.

One of these graduates is Ameer F***j, from the 2024-25 cohort, who now heads up our new Hebron-based outreach service. His role takes him to some of the most remote communities in the West Bank who otherwise may not be able to access vital sight-saving services.

Yesterday, the SJEHG team at our Nablus Hospital, led by Dr. Omar Abdul Daim, carried out an emergency vision-saving vitreo-retinal (VR) surgery on a 56-year-old patient. Acting fast was vital, as he had already lost vision in one eye due to a previous injury.

This shows just how essential our hospital in the north of the West Bank is to the local population as, if he had to travel to Jerusalem for surgery, it may have been too late to save this patient’s sight.

We wish him a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Rick and Saba from the London Office of SJEHG were delighted to attend the Bishop’s Waltham Garden Fair on Sunday 3 October!

Now in its 24th year, the Fair raises money for the Eye Hospital and is a great family day out in the grounds of beautiful Wintershill Hall, Durley.
