TIPS FOR STAYING COOL:
Trap the cool air: Keep windows and blinds fully closed during peak sun hours.
Drink plenty: Water or squash. Stay away from alcohol, tea and coffee as it creates more dehydration.
Ventilate at night: Only open windows later at night when the outside temperature drops below the indoor temperature.
Check medication: Ensure medical supplies stay below 25°C. Move temperature-sensitive prescriptions into the fridge.
Power down electronics: Turn off non-essential TVs, laptops, and lights. They generate extra indoor heat.
Stay downstairs: Stay on the ground floor. Heat naturally rises to upper floors.
Eat cold foods: meals with high water content like salads, fruit, or cucumber. Avoid using the oven.
Apply cold water: Dab a wet, cool cloth on the back of the neck or wrists. This is more effective than a fan in extreme heat.
IF FEELING CONFUSED, DIZZY OR WITH A POUNDING HEADACHE, consider calling emergency services.
Remember this is a very rare RED ALERT with risk to health.
Stay Safe!
