It’s not about not loving donkeys.. of course we all love our four legged friends 💕 🫏 .. we just care about gender equality and the protection of women girls even more. It’s great to have happening this weekend in order to shine a light on the rights of women and girls and we champion that everyday BUT our sector is still one of the most underfunded in the UK and globally - this week marked the very sad 5th anniversary of the murder of 💔 and often it feels like our safety and our rights are being yet further eroded within the polarisation of the political landscape. Olwyn funds female founded grass roots organisations. If you can spare £10/15 or £20 per month we promise that funds will go directly to supporting groups that are really making the difference for women and girls in the UK and around the world. - please donate via our link in bio or via our story.

Wednesday night saw the opening of Land Camp by photographer supported by Olwyn Foundation - the turnout was amazing (despite the weather!) to see this important work and hear the stories of the women of the 21st Land Camp of Brazil - the Acampamento Tierra Livre (ATL) and the warrior women of ANMIGA. Thank you to for bringing such heart felt understanding to the talk which was a celebration of women and nature and ultimately joy.

Next week photographer will be launching a show of new work entitled Land Camp - a series of powerful 📸portraits taken at last year’s 21st Free land camp in Brazil, where 8,000 indigenous leaders gathered to lobby the government for climate protection. We are delighted to announce a new exhibition of work by photographer in association with Olwyn Foundation - entitled Land Camp.

An amazing collection of new work, the prints feature the indigenous women of the 21st Free Land Camp movement of Brazil who were part of the largest mobilisation of indigenous people in the world, to protest against climate change.

The photographs will be on show from January 22-24. We are delighted that a percentage from the sales of all Land Camp prints will go to the foundation to support our work across the women and girls sector.

Samantha Rowe-Beddoe founder of Olwyn says, “women and girls are the most negatively affected by climate change, whether through increased child marriage, general displacement, poverty, scarcity of resources and increased sexual violence. The climate crisis is always a women’s issue.”

These stats from are truly shocking. Whilst we applaud the success of the TV show in highlighting the (as well as its nominations) we also wait to see what happens in with the social media ban for Under 16s. Can we really turn the power of the algorithm off? Until gender based violence and misogyny stops being pushed by social media, our men and boys and girls and women will be in danger ⚠️

Today’s ruling on former footballer Joey Barton saw him being handed a suspended sentence for social media posts TV football pundits Lucy Ward and Eni Aluko as well as broadcaster Jeremy Vine. Barton was found guilty of sending grossly offensive electronic communications with intent to cause distress or anxiety and had “crossed the line between free speech and a crime” and compared Aluko and Ward to serial killers Fred and Rose West - what happens online does not stay online - both for victims of online abuse but also famous perpetrators of that abuse.

According to the Foundation, a leading men’s health organization and UN Women partner, two-thirds of young men regularly engage with masculinity influencers online. Experts are finding that the popularity of extreme language in the manosphere not only normalizes violence against women and girls, but has growing links to radicalization and extremist ideologies.

UN Women and our partners are taking action to challenge online misogyny and digital abuse. Through research, policy advocacy, survivor support, programming and campaigns that push back against toxic masculinity, we’re all working to make digital spaces safer and more equal for everyone.
