On Thursday 5 March our Chair of Friends of the Magdi Yacoub Insititute Dana Widad Shami-Karaket gave an inspirational welcoming address to over 4000 people gathered at the Royal Albert Hall for a Night with the Legends. There was a remarkable atmosphere in the hall — a sense of warmth, generosity and shared purpose that everyone present will carry for a long time. It was a beautiful moment to reflect on the extraordinary journey that has brought us together, and on the shared commitment of so many people who continue to support the work of the Institute. We are deeply grateful to Widad and the Friends of the MYI for making the night possible. Dana Shami

It is with a heavy heart that sadly long time supporter and friends of the charity, Sybil Stockwell recently passed away from pancreatic cancer.

She was a wonderful mum, nan, sister, friend and much more. She will be missed by her family and friends and everyone the Magdi Yacoub Institute.

Sybil was a passionate supporter of the Institute, raising money for the charity for decades, knitting chicks with her sister Zena, making cards, and any other craft she could think of to help us continue our work in life changing heart research.

Her family are kindly continuing Sybil's work and have set up a page in her memory.

Thank you Sybil for everything you did, you will be greatly missed Sybil.

What a week in Cairo! 🌍🫀
We’re feeling proud and inspired after an incredible time at the HVS 2025 Annual Meeting.

Professor Yacoub shared insights on the clinical translation of tissue-engineered valve models, with data straight from our Heart Science Centre in Harefield.

Dr Najma Latif spoke insightfully during her lecture about the complex biology at the heart of tissue-engineered valves.

It’s a privilege to be part of such an inspiring international community working to transform the future of heart valve care.
