What a special evening! ✨

This week, Amelia & Annabel had the pleasure of attending the Essex Community Foundation Summer Party, celebrating an incredible 30 years of supporting communities across Essex.

It was wonderful to spend the evening meeting so many passionate people, hearing about the amazing work happening across the county and celebrating the difference that local charities and community groups make every day. The beautiful setting made it even more memorable!

We were also thrilled to win the photo competition. πŸ†πŸ“Έ Our winning photo captured a moment from our Wiggles & Jiggles group, a project made possible thanks to funding through the Community Cares Fund, facilitated by Essex Community Foundation. It was a lovely reminder of what can be achieved when organisations come together to support families in our local community.

A huge thank you to everyone at Essex Community Foundation for such a warm welcome, and congratulations on 30 years of creating opportunities, strengthening communities and helping local organisations like ours make a lasting difference. 🎢

Here's to many more years of making an impact together! πŸ™Œ

Come along with our Senior Music Therapist Amelia and see what a day in the life is really like.

From assessments and meetings to advocating for the power of music therapy, no two days are ever the same. Every conversation and every connection plays a part in helping more people access the support they need.

There's so much that happens beyond the therapy room. Planning, collaboration, partnership working and networking to name but a few!

At the heart of it all is the same goal. Helping people communicate, connect and thrive through music. ❀️

We hope you enjoy coming behind the scenes with us!

Therapy in Action! πŸŽΆπŸ™Œ

These photos capture Senior Music Therapist Annie working with two pupils, aged 7 and 8, during a Music Therapy session in school.

In the first two photos, the girls are singing The Grand Old Duke of York as their puppets march up and down the hill. In the following images, you can see one of the girls developing greater control of her instrument as she explores different ways of playing.

It might look like play, but every musical interaction has a therapeutic purpose.

Using music as the medium, children are supported to develop communication, confidence, emotional expression and social interaction in a way that feels engaging, motivating and fun.

In these sessions, the therapeutic aims included:
🎡 Taking turns and developing shared attention by watching and responding to another person's playing.
🎡 Leading others in a musical activity using clear actions and developing confidence in non-verbal communication.

These skills help children far beyond the therapy room, supporting learning, relationships and participation throughout the school day.

Is your school planning support for the new academic year?

Music Therapy can be delivered as part of a pupil's EHCP provision or targeted intervention. We can also offer Community Music groups, and support music-based activities within schools such as choirs. We work alongside school staff to provide bespoke support for pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism, learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, SEMH needs and emotional wellbeing.

If you're looking to strengthen your therapeutic provision this September, we'd love to help.

πŸ“© Get in touch to arrange an informal conversation about how Music Therapy could support your pupils and staff.

Today we are saying a fond farewell to our wonderful Senior Music Therapist Annie, as she begins her well earned retirement. ❀️

Annie has been part of the Ace team for many years, bringing warmth, compassion and creativity to every person she worked with. From supporting our Essex Activate sessions, Co-leading groups for people living with Long Covid and other long term chronic conditions (and speaking about the work at The Future of Music and Arts in Medicine and Health conference in Berlin!) To working with individuals, schools and families across Norfolk, Annie has made a lasting difference to so many lives. She has also been our Mental Health First Aider, always offering support and kindness to both colleagues and the people we work with.

Amelia, our CEO & Founder, said:

"It's been a real privilege to work with Annie, especially as we trained together at ARU, We'll really miss her and wish her all the very best for this next chapter. Enjoy a well earned rest, Annie!"

Thank you Annie for everything you have given to Ace, to your colleagues and to every person whose life you've touched through music. Your kindness, dedication and gentle encouragement have left a lasting legacy, and we know you'll be greatly missed.

Wishing you every happiness in your retirement, and in your music making with your Grandchildren! πŸ₯³

Some of the smallest moments have the biggest impact. ❀️

This photo was taken at Wiggles & Jiggles, our music & movement group for babies and their parents and carers.

Over the course of the programme, we welcomed families who often didn't know anyone else in the room. Week by week, we saw confidence grow, friendships form, laughter fill the space and babies respond to music in incredible ways. For many families, it became so much more than a weekly session. It became somewhere they looked forward to coming, where they felt connected and supported.

Thanks to the Co-op Community Cares Fund, distributed by Essex Community Foundation, we were able to offer these sessions completely free, giving families access to specialist support during those precious early months without the worry of cost.

To us, this photo sums up what makes Essex so special. People coming together, supporting one another and creating spaces where families can connect and thrive.

If we're fortunate enough to win the competition, the Β£500 would help us continue creating opportunities like this, bringing the power of music to even more people across our community.

A huge thank you to Essex Community Foundation for supporting projects like Wiggles & Jiggles, and for celebrating the people, places and organisations that make Essex such a wonderful place to live. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘πŸ»πŸŽΆ
