Join us as we walk 23km across London, taking in skyline views, riverside paths and the city’s most historic landmarks.

We start at Putney Bridge, following the Thames east as we zig‑zag across 16 iconic bridges — each with its own story and place in London’s heartbeat.

We’ll rest + refuel together at Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, then head east toward our finish line celebration at Potters Field Park.

Every step = impact.
Every mile = uplift.
Every participant = part of the change.

We believe that impact becomes sustainable when we listen to local knowledge and build from existing community strengths.

Today, we are introducing our first Change Makers of 2026 - an inspiring group of partners who will be working with us through our community resilience programme to build dignity, strengthen communities, and create lasting change across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and here in the UK.

These are not just your normal charities or non-profits. These are organisations that have showcased strong community resilience rooted in local strengths, lived experience, and the belief that when communities lead, transformation follows.

Designing Better Schools Starts with Better Decisions

How we design schools matters - not just for learning outcomes, but for communities, environments, and long-term development.

The School Design Book for East Africa, developed by Enabel in collaboration with the Feilden Foundation and local and international partners, offers practical design guidance for organisations working in school environments across Uganda, Rwanda, and the wider region.

Grounded in extensive fieldwork across 40+ schools, and shaped by educators, architects, engineers, policymakers, and communities, the guide supports projects that consider:
❓Social and cultural context
❓Environmental sustainability
❓Economic and resource efficiency
❓Child-centred and inclusive design

More than recommendations, this guide shares practical solutions to help organisations deliver stronger, more resilient education projects that benefit learners, communities, and the environments they are part of.

If you are working in education, infrastructure, or development - this is a resource worth exploring.

This year we welcomed our very first volunteer, Shaina , and she has been an incredible addition to The Kula Foundation team. From day one, she has brought energy, curiosity and real dedication to her role.

Her work has focused on exploring waste management challenges in Kenya, looking at how small charities like ours can contribute to sustainable, locally driven solutions. She’s researched policy frameworks, community realities, and examples from across East Africa that could inform our approach and shared vision for a sustainable waste management facility in places such as Mombasa, Kenya.

The project aims to go beyond environmental clean-up. It’s about exploring how we can build circular systems that create jobs, education, and training opportunities, particularly for women, which was identified as a challenge in the area.

Hear all about it on the Small International Development Charities Network (SIDCN) Website:

As you’ll likely know, one of SIDCN’s main aims as a network organisation is to connect. Bringing small global charities together is a big part of who we are, and we love any opportunity to help members and individuals connect and collaborate.Earlier this year, we introduced one of our members, ...

No water, no problem

A ventilated composting latrine can safely process human waste without relying on scarce water resources. Combined with rainwater harvesting for handwashing and community-led training, we can protect health, build resilience, and restore dignity.

In Summer 2024, The Founder of The Kula Foundation worked with a rural Kenyan community to deliver a ventilated composting latrine (VCT) system, a waterless, sustainable approach to sanitation where water is scarce. 🚰✨

The system reduces pathogens, integrates rainwater harvesting for handwashing, and empowers residents with training to manage facilities long-term. The result? Improved health, restored dignity, and cleaner environments.

Our local parks are more than green spaces, they could be places where communities can grow together.

🌳 Yet funding cuts, climate pressures, and social change have left many parks underutilised. All while Local Boroughs want local groups such as 'Friends of..' Parks to lead on initiatives while Local Groups want councils to support their local green parks.

How to we bridge this gap?

We’re exploring how community gardens and resident-led allotments could breathe new life into parks, reconnect neighbours, and create healthier, more sustainable spaces for all. Allotments are in more demand so lets make it more local.

👉 Imagine turning unused corners of a park into thriving gardens that bring people together, improve wellbeing, and fund future improvements.
👉 We could show young people how to grow and be creative in small resident-led allotments and make parks the beating hearts of our communities once again. 🌱

Read more about this vision and how you can support it to make parks work for us.

Parks are the beating hearts of our communities, spaces where families gather, children play, and neighbours connect. Yet in many local boroughs, parks have become underused and underloved. Changin…

Apple Pulp Could Fuel a Social Enterprise, Yes that's right!

Food waste continues to be a critical global issue. In 2022, 1.05 billion tonnes of food were wasted worldwide, accounting for roughly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Around the world, underrepresented and informal communities face persistent challenges in access to basic services, including clean and affordable energy.

Globally, over 1 billion people live in informal settlements, often relying on firewood, charcoal, or other fossil fuels for cooking and heating, resources that are expensive, polluting, and unsafe. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, a large number of the urban population resides in informal settlements without good access to heat/fuel source for cooking, creating both social and economic vulnerabilities.

Apples, often discarded due to cosmetic imperfections or as byproducts of juice production, represent one opportunity to reduce waste while generating alternative value for communities.

🌍 One brick. Endless potential.

We’ve made our first UK-based interlocking brick, and it’s more than just a building material — it’s a symbol of how simple ideas can build a better, more sustainable future.

Inspired by our founders trip last year, Interlocking bricks allow for construction with less cement, minimal skilled labour, and more efficiency. This makes it ideal for small-scale community projects here in the UK and for future builds internationally.

They fit together like LEGO, no fancy tools, no wasteful adhesives. Just clever design thinking for a greener planet. 🌱

At The Kula Foundation, we believe design should work with people, not just for them. This brick opens the door for:
🔹 Community-built shelters
🔹 Volunteer-led builds
🔹 Modular classrooms
🔹 Local micro-enterprise opportunities
🔹 More circular, zero-waste approaches to construction

We’re proud to champion sustainable solutions that empower communities. One step, one brick, one future at a time.

✨ Let’s reimagine how we build — together.

Introducing the first ever Kula Team of 2025

This weekend, 11 incredible individuals came together to take on the Snowdon Challenge — forming the very first Kula Foundation Team to summit one of the UK’s highest peaks!

Through wind, rain, and some truly wild weather, this amazing group brought energy, resilience, and heart every step of the way. Not only did they climb a mountain — they raised an incredible £5,100 (and counting!) to support our mission of creating lasting, community-driven change through sustainable design.

We couldn’t be more proud of the spirit, strength, and support shown throughout the day. Every step taken has brought us closer to building a more just and sustainable future for communities around the world.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, trained, or cheered us on from afar. And most of all — thank you to our 2025 summit team. You’ve set the bar for every challenge to come 💛

📸 Have a look at some of the photos, reflections, and stories from the climb coming soon.

Once again we would like to thank .sanana Gareth Povey Alyson Page Rachel Ellis Deepa Baxi (Tailor) Aarti Raj Neelam Dalal Bhavin Sisodaria and Francesca Gatta for showing up with the energy that fuelled the whole day. They absolutely conquered snowdon!
