International Relief Foundation

International Relief Foundation IRF responds to emergencies such as drought and famine and also to poverty in its various forms we could face in Somalia.

International Relief Foundation (IRF) is a registered charitable organisation in the United Kingdom established in 2011 and working for social good in the United Kingdom and abroad. Our primary aim is to provide relief and assistance to people in need in any part of the world and support individuals and communities suffering from prolonged periods of violence, war and catastrophe. We have a presen

ce in parts of the country, and we help the disadvantaged, marginalised, minorities and the most vulnerable people access basic services, including education, healthcare, and livelihood. We empower people in poverty to live with dignity, self-reliance and hope. IRF’s work focused until now on the following areas:

Food: IRF provides food supplies for displaced people in Mogadishu, Brava, Marka and Baidoa (South Somalia)

Emergency Relief: IRF has deployed emergency assistance to flood and drought-affected IDPs (Internally Displaced People) by providing them with tents, mosquito nets and blankets. Education: IRF supported some schools in Mogadishu and facilitated access to schools for poor children in Brava. Health: IRF implemented the reconstruction of a Marka and Brava general hospitals funded by Caritas Somalia in Brava and Marka and facilitated the distribution of food, medicines, nutrition and sanitary equipment to needy people in Mogadishu and Baidoa. Livelihood: Through income-generating programs, IRF and its partners help local communities in South Somalia develop projects to improve agriculture.

Somalia’s Identity Crisis: Minority Exclusion,DiasporaInfluence, and the One Person One Vote Transition.

Somalia is facing a deep identity crisis shaped by clan divisions, political instability, and decades of conflict. While we speak of unity, the reality is that many minority and marginalised communities, such as Bantu/Jareer, Banadiri, Bravanese , Bajuni and Gaboye groups are still excluded socially, economically, and politically.

The debate around “one man, one vote” is a step toward democracy, but without real inclusion, true equality remains out of reach.

I believe the Somali diaspora can play a major role if given a fair chance. They bring global experience, innovation, and a vision for a more inclusive Somalia, one that recognises ALL its people and moves beyond old divisions.

It’s time for an honest conversation about who we are as a nation and who we want to become. 🇸🇴

✨ Hope. Opportunity. Transformation.

Meet Safia, Feisal, and Hani — three incredible young people from Baraawe, Somalia. Through the Somalia Marginalised and Minority Fellowship Program (2024–2025), they overcame barriers of exclusion to gain skills, confidence, and meaningful work experience.

Today, Safia works with Loop, while Faysal continues his journey at NIRA as a supervisor — both shining examples of what empowerment can achieve.

A heartfelt thank you to Hamza Mohammed, CEO of the International Relief Foundation, and Minority Rights Group for making this initiative possible.
