Somalia’s Identity Crisis: Minority Exclusion,DiasporaInfluence, and the One Person One Vote Transition.
Somalia is facing a deep identity crisis shaped by clan divisions, political instability, and decades of conflict. While we speak of unity, the reality is that many minority and marginalised communities, such as Bantu/Jareer, Banadiri, Bravanese , Bajuni and Gaboye groups are still excluded socially, economically, and politically.
The debate around “one man, one vote” is a step toward democracy, but without real inclusion, true equality remains out of reach.
I believe the Somali diaspora can play a major role if given a fair chance. They bring global experience, innovation, and a vision for a more inclusive Somalia, one that recognises ALL its people and moves beyond old divisions.
It’s time for an honest conversation about who we are as a nation and who we want to become. 🇸🇴
