Twickenham Sea Cadets

Twickenham Sea Cadets We are Twickenham Sea Cadets, part of the UK's largest maritime youth charity.

Cadets go to sea, learn to sail and undertake field craft, gaining extra skills that give them a head start in life. We offer adventures ranging from inshore and offshore boating, camping, adventurous training, marksmanship shooting and multiple other specialisations. As a unit we are a recognised RYA training centre, a provider of BTECs through CVQO, and a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme provide

Our Volunteers continue to amaze and humble me, without their commitment week in week out the experiences we offer to our young people would be greatly reduced.

Our volunteers include the Unit Management Team and Parents and Friends who ensure that we have a unit to parade in and equipment that is safe to use. It also includes others that help out when needed but sit in the back ground.

Thank you!

This week staff and cadets were enjoying the weather at HMS Raleigh and they have had a fabulous experience. Without the assistance of committed staff the Cadet Experience would not exist. I would like to thank the London Western District Staff for organising the event but I want to thank and acknowledge my staff who have given up a week of their time to ensure that all the cadets from London Western District who attended had the best possible experience. My thanks go to PO Gaby Nagy, SSgt James and PO Saunders who I hear also had a great time.

Thank you

After six months of hard work and toil PO Henri Dulis was confirmed last night as a substantive Petty Officer and I was able to award him his new rank slides and badge. Well done !

Henri has come up through the cadet ranks aging out late last year as Petty Officer Cadet. Transitioning from cadet to adult volunteer will always have its difficulties but Henri has settled extremely well into the instructional staff and is a valued member of the team.

Today we hosted the London Western District Boat Handling Competition with entries from Wandsworth, and Twickenham.

The conditions were very challenging with a very cold and strong north wind but we came through it with flying colours. All of the competitors did very well but Twickenham came
🏅First in the Sail Boat Handling crewed by AC Dylan OC Emily.
🏅First in the Rowing Cdt Davina Cdt Zere Cdt Nyah Cdt Xenia and Cdt Ela
🏅First in the Power Boating POC Sam OC Kanishka and AC Parker.

The Rowing team need special mention, they have only recently joined the SCC and have taken advantage of everything the unit has to offer. They have jelled as a close knit team and threw themselves into the extra training well done.

Welll done to the other two teams with a sublime demonstration in power boating and sailing.

Thank also to the 1st SLt Maclean, PO Dulis and CI Cowles who did a fabulous job in preparing the crews.

A very proud CO.

Well done and BZ

Yesterday the Chairman Chris McLaughlin and the Commanding Officer Lt Roger Middleton attended a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on behalf of our volunteers. The King and Queen together with the Princess Royal were in attendance to recognise and celebrate awards winners from around the country.

We were there as recipients of the Kings Award for Voluntary Service which recognises the huge contribution our volunteers make and have made over the years.

Just a couple of photos from last nights parade, with the senior cadets training for the promotion boards in July and saying goodbye to LC Lucas who ages out. Lucas has been with us since April 2022 and took full advantage of the cadets experience.

All the staff and cadets wish him all the very best for the future and if he decides he would like to give back to the Sea Cadets then my door will be open.

Yet again the weather gods were on our side, we were able to avoid the avoid the forecasted showers and cadets took full advantage. Cadets were out training for forthcoming competitions and generally having fun, with cadets ranging from 10 to 17 out on the river.

One of our own is off to the Falkland Islands for 12 weeks, unfortunately its winter down there, a far cry from his last ‘trip’.

Saturday was the Army and Navy Rugby Match at Twickenham with POC Lacy leading out the flag party at the beginning of the game.

I would like to thank all staff, cadets, parents, committee members and friends of Twick’ Unit past and present for all your wonderful gifts and very kind words. I am completely overwhelmed by everybody’s generosity. I have not yet decided what I will spend my cheque on but whatever I choose I will think of you all.

Best wishes, Pete Gallon.

Last night I had the pleasure of hosting Cdr Michael Chittock, Lt Cdr Seb Rowlands, SLt Maxine Lincoln plus the Area Chaplain Rev Lee Clark for our Unit Review. The Reviewing Team witnessed Twickenham operating as business as usual, visiting classes being delivered and talking to cadets about their experiences at Twickenham.

I also took the opportunity and Cdr Chittock kindly agreed to carry out 4 enrolments of Cdt Davina Cdr Victoria Cdt Arthur, Cdt Yee Chun who now take full advantage of everything that the SCC and Twickenham have to offer.

Cdr Chittock also agreed to present various awards, badges and promotions for cadets which rounded off the evening very nicely.

I would like to thank Cdr Chittock for his kind words about the unit, cadets and staff and confirming that we citizens deliver a fantastic cadet experience.

Lt Cdr Rowland presented the CO with his certificate for successfully completing the New Officer Support Program.

Without staff any sea cadet unit would not function and last night the team did a brilliant job demonstrating their pride and commitment to the unit and cadets.

Thank you
