After eight years in post, our Chair of Trustees, Chris McLaughlin, has announced he will step down. Chris is incredibly proud of the Unit's achievements during his tenure: TS Saumarez was named the UK’s best Sea Cadet unit (Canada Trophy 2023) for the first time in our 94-year history, received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, and completed major upgrades to our facilities and fleet.
We are now seeking a collaborative, dynamic individual to serve as our next Chair and lead our Unit Management Team.
About the Role:
As Chair, you will lead our trustee board, working alongside our Commanding Officer to ensure our charity remains financially sound, well-governed, and equipped to deliver life-changing experiences for young people aged 10–18.
Who We Are Looking For:
- You don't need prior Trustee experience: while useful to have, you’ll be backed by an effective, established board and national guidance from the Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC).
- You have strong communication skills, strategic vision, and a desire to give back to young people in your community.
- You're looking to gain senior leadership experience, build your local network, and guide a successful charity.
You will be supported by an experienced, proactive board of trustees and full guidance from Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC).
