Sometimes, what an animal needs most is love 💙

When our CEO Joe recently visited Arcadia Animal Care, GR/Πολιτιστικός Φιλοζωικός Σύλλογος Τρίπολης in Greece, one particular dog caught her attention.

He was so desperate for a little affection that he would jump up onto the fence and hang there, just waiting for someone to stop and give him some love. 😍

Of course, all animals need food, vet care, shelter and protection. These things are vital to the work we do.

But sometimes, in the midst of all that practical care, it’s easy to forget something just as important: they want to feel loved, too.

Through our outreach work across Greece, we meet animals who may have had difficult starts in life, but time and time again, we see that they still seek out human connection. They want a gentle touch. A kind voice. Someone to sit beside them. Someone to notice them.

Because underneath everything, they’re not different from us.

They just want to be safe. They want to be cared for. And they want to be loved. ❤️

For the 13th consecutive year, our Equine Care Team returned to Amorgos to provide essential veterinary, dental and farriery care to 45 working equines across the island.

From treating injuries and insect-related skin conditions to relieving serious dental problems, the team worked alongside local owners to improve the health and welfare of their donkeys, mules and horses.

In addition to treating Amorgos’ working equines, the team also provided veterinary care to the elderly residents of the Animal Zone International sanctuary—four donkeys and two mules.

The support of local businesses is also invaluable to the success of the program. We would like to express our special thanks to Blue Star Ferries and Seajets for their support in helping our project by offering free ferry tickets for the equine team members, the apartments “Voula Beach”, “Amorgos” and “Galini” in Katapola for hosting the equine team, Thomas Auto Moto Rental for providing, for one more year, the car for the group’s transportation, Youkali Amorgos and αλιφώνι for their generous meals, Mavros Bakery and Sweets by Pothiti -Γλυκά της Ποθητής for providing breakfasts and Κρεπερί-Καφέ Ελίχρυσον for kindly offering short lunches to the team members on throughout the day.

Για 13η συνεχόμενη χρονιά, η Ομάδα Φροντίδας Ιπποειδών επισκέφθηκε ξανά την Αμοργό, προσφέροντας απαραίτητη κτηνιατρική, οδοντιατρική και πεταλωτική φροντίδα σε 45 ιπποειδή εργασίας σε όλο το νησί.

Από την περιποίηση τραυματισμών και την αντιμετώπιση δερματικών προβλημάτων που προκαλούνται από τσιμπήματα εντόμων, έως την ανακούφιση ζώων που αντιμετώπιζαν σοβαρά οδοντικά προβλήματα, η ομάδα συνεργάστηκε στενά με τους ιδιοκτήτες, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στη βελτίωση της υγείας και της ευζωίας των γαϊδουριών, των μουλαριών και των αλόγων τους.

ESPI (Greek Association for the Protection of Equines) ΕΣΠΙ-Ελληνικός Σύλλογος Προστασίας Ιπποειδών, one of our long-standing partners, are organising a fundraising concert with two well-known artists, the Greek composer and pianist Stefanos Korkolis and the Greek singer Σοφία Μανουσάκη / Sofia Manousaki, on Thursday the 24th of September, to celebrate the 20 years anniversary of ESPI.

Their work is dedicated to protecting the welfare of equines in Greece and give abused, neglected and abandoned equines a second chance for a dignified life.

Through compassionate care, rehabilitation and ongoing support, they provide each animal with the attention and protection they need to recover and rebuild their strength. This concert is more than an evening of music — it is an opportunity to make a difference to the equines in need.

Our Equine Care Team returned to Paralion Astros to provide essential veterinary, dental and farriery care to the 29 horses, donkeys and mules living at the Arcadia Animal Care, GR/Πολιτιστικός Φιλοζωικός Σύλλογος Τρίπολης shelter.

Most were found to be in good condition, reflecting the volunteers’ dedication and the benefits of regular care. However, the shelter is under growing pressure as more animals arrive without a corresponding increase in financial or practical support.

The team treated every equine they could safely catch, provided individual feeding advice and shared guidance to support the animals’ ongoing handling and rehabilitation.

Η Ομάδα Φροντίδας Ιπποειδών επέστρεψε πρόσφατα στο Παράλιον Άστρος, προκειμένου να προσφέρει την απαραίτητη κτηνιατρική, οδοντιατρική και πεταλωτική φροντίδα στα 29 άλογα, γαϊδούρια και μουλάρια που φιλοξενούνται στο καταφύγιο του Πολιτιστικού Φιλοζωικού Συλλόγου Τρίπολης.

Τα περισσότερα ζώα βρέθηκαν σε καλή κατάσταση, γεγονός που αντικατοπτρίζει την αφοσίωση των εθελοντών, και τη σημασία της τακτικής φροντίδας. Ωστόσο, το καταφύγιο δέχεται ολοένα και μεγαλύτερη πίεση, καθώς ο αριθμός των ζώων που φτάνουν σε αυτό αυξάνεται, χωρίς να υπάρχει αντίστοιχη ενίσχυση σε οικονομική ή πρακτική υποστήριξη.

Η ομάδα φρόντισε κάθε ιπποειδές που μπορούσε να πιάσει με ασφάλεια, έδωσε εξατομικευμένες συμβουλές για τη διατροφή τους και παρείχε οδηγίες για την καθημερινή διαχείριση, φροντίδα, εκπαίδευση και αποκατάστασή τους.

Fur farming has no place in Greece or anywhere in Europe.

Greece is currently the third-largest mink-farming country in the world, with an estimated 1.6 million mink still kept in cages.

The time to end this cruel industry is long overdue. Now is the time to act.
