πŸ₯³ What an incredible week we have had here at HEP.

🌟 On Monday, we hosted team WalkThrus for their Leads Network, and Deputy Chief Exec, Fran Hargrove, and Chief Exec, James Page, attended the launch of KS3 Alliance in Ealing.

✍️ On Tuesday, we were joined by IP and previous Haringey Head, who delivered the second session of the Writing Framework: The Stanley Road Way, a three-part programme for English Leads. Stephen guided 35 delegates from across HEP schools through their long- and medium-term planning and looked at resources, scaffolds, and planning for the year.

🏫 On Wednesday, Haringey Primary and Early Years Headteachers came together for their termly strategic meeting in our offices.

πŸš€ On Thursday, we were joined by Amjad Ali to launch our Year of Inclusion. A huge thank you to the over 40 delegates who squeezed into our training rooms for that.

We also welcomed the first group of Mentors for the ECTP with UCL and Red Kite.

And to round off the day, we were joined by 60+ primary leaders to launch the Mini Bro Code with Kimberly McVeigh. A set of resources to build understanding of respect and fairness, and address misogyny in primary schools.

✨️ To round off the week, we welcomed our second group of Mentors to support the ECTP. It has been really inspiring to meet so many of our potential future school leaders in these cohorts.

Primary science leads, this one's for you πŸ”¬

What should children experience in a really good science lesson?

In our new blog, Brenda Hayles, author of HEP Science, explains why the lesson is only part of the story. What matters is how it fits into a bigger sequence.

She covers starting with what children already know, teaching vocabulary properly, making practical work purposeful and checking that learning has stuck.

There's a free checklist too: eight questions to review science in your school, with space to rate each one and plan next steps.

"Where does Computing fit when the timetable is already packed full?"

⏱️ It’s the classic primary dilemma: a dense curriculum and limited time.

🧱 If you block computing into termly slots, children forget key concepts.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» If you teach it weekly, tech setup eats half the lesson.

The HEP Computing Curriculum offers modular flexibility designed specifically for primary timetables.

πŸ“ With adaptable unit structures and clear cross-curricular connections (reinforcing Maths, PSHE, and Art), you can easily integrate digital learning into your existing curriculum map.

πŸ›Ÿ Save timetable space without compromising on subject depth.

✨ Cost to your school? £0. Available for free to HEP members and all registered HEP School Improvement account holders.

Misogyny isn’t waiting for secondary school. How are you tackling it in primary?

Primary leaders are increasingly seeing sexist rhetoric and influencer-driven attitudes appearing in Upper KS2 classrooms and playgrounds.

Finding the right way to address this, without shaming boys or adding extra burden to staff capacity, can be a difficult balance to strike.

The UK Government’s Freedom from Violence and Abuse strategy highlights early intervention as a central pillar, reinforcing the need for relationship-violence prevention and updated RSHE focus right from primary school.

πŸš€ To help primary schools address this head-on, we are launching The Mini Bro Code: a 6-week, ready-to-teach programme designed specifically for Upper KS2.

✏️ Created by Alan Bissett and Kimberley Roan McVeigh, it equips pupils with the tools to build respectful relationships and challenge harmful stereotypes years before these mindsets solidify.
