The occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine did not begin in October 2023 with the systematic genocide in Gaza. It began long before 1947 and the forced , during which Zionist forces destroyed over 500 towns and villages and displaced more than 750,000 Palestinians from their own lands. Tens of thousands of Palestinians lost their lives—all under the cowardly gaze of the British and the world. With UN approval in 1948, Palestinian territory was partitioned, and the new "state" of Israel forcibly seized 78% of Palestinian land.
However, this occupation and ethnic cleansing began much earlier. It was the British colonial administration that determined the future of the Palestinian nation and its historic territory. In 1922, under the so-called British Mandate for Palestine, the occupation of Palestinian territories was established to create a "Jewish National Home" on land belonging to Palestine—a move the British government had already decided upon in 1917 with the Balfour Declaration, pledging support for the Jewish settlement over the Palestinian region.
Genocide and displacement have been constant over Palestine since Zionism first set foot on Palestinian soil. Israel seeks to take full control of Gaza and the West Bank territories. Britain's support for the Zionist occupation continues today, through political, economic links and arms production, and we are not going to allow that.
The British Chapter Antifascist International is joining the National March for Palestine, together with socialist Jewish communities including those organised around the bund rejected Zionism and the creation of Israel.
Join our contingent as we continue the fight against the genocide in Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank, and advocate for Palestinian sovereignty and self-determination.
