Dwayne Fields – Chief Scouts said ‘’I’m incredibly pleased that the 9th Lewisham North Scout Group is opening. This means we will now have more young people in the local community making friends, building their confidence and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work.

When I was young, as quite a shy kid, I remember walking into my local Scout meeting place and getting such a warm welcome. I found people who believed in me, and that helped me believe in myself. This set me a path to adventure – taking me to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands and even the North Pole.

Now I’m so pleased that young people in Lewisham will get the same chance I did – to discover their talents and find their place in the world.

A massive thank you to everyone at the 9th Lewisham North Scout Group. You’re making all the difference to young lives and bringing people together,''

Well done to you all,
Dwayne Fields
Chief Scout

The session is also open for people who might like to know a bit more about volunteering. The event is being held at (what three words – puddings/pythons/fallback) from 11.00am to 4.00pm

Scouting provides over 250 activities for children and young people. These range from abseiling to cooking, geocaching to map reading and pioneering to water activities. Volunteer Nigel said, “As a volunteer, you will make new friends, share interests and experience, and make a difference to people’s lives.” He added, “Seeing a child achieve something, whether it’s making a meal, doing a science experiment or getting to the top of a climbing wall, will always bring a smile to your face.” Nigel added, “For adults it’s a great opportunity to share their knowledge, hobbies and skills and to help young people develop. Volunteering gives you a sense of purpose, a great deal of pride and satisfaction and helps us give something back to the community.”
Nigel added, “Come along and find out more about what Scouts get up to. This is a great opportunity for young people to learn and develop skills along with having fun and doing activities they have not done before."

Scouts are so cool
The 102nd Leicester Scout Troop have been heavily involved in a wide range of activities over the last few months. Air ri**es, camping, craft, hiking, kayaking and pioneering are just a few of the activities the boys and girls aged 10 to 14 have been up to.
Arissa said, “What I’ve enjoyed the most about Scouts is I meet new friends and do fun activities. I’m really excited to go to Splash Camp this year. I learn lots of new things every week and I really enjoyed meeting the mini beasts”. Daniel said, “The best thing about Scouts so far is, the Jar ecosystems because it was very fun to do”

Sam, one of the volunteers with the Group said, “Our Scouts are able to participate in a wide range of activities that they may not get the chance to do elsewhere, along with forming lasting friendships during their time with us. As a volunteer it is great to share the Scouting journey with them.”

Sam added, “There are over 250 activities that children and young people involved with Scouts can do. These range from abseiling to geocaching, hiking to mechanics and pioneering to zorbing. The Scouts will learn and develop skills such as commitment, leadership, problem solving, responsibility, self-confidence and teamwork”

Andy, Lead volunteer for the Scout Group said, “Scouting provides opportunities for children and young people to do a wide range of activities, to make new friends and to “have a go”. As the demand grows, we are looking for more volunteers to get involved. Whether that is volunteering with young people, being a trustee, doing some admin, or helping with fundraising, we would find a role for you.”

The 1st Sawley Scout Group are opening a new Scout Troop (boys and girls aged 10 to 14). This is due to the demand for places from young people. With several children moving from Cubs (boys and girls aged 8 to 10) to Scouts and children on the waiting list, the Group made the decision to open a second Troop so more young people can join.
Children and young people in Scouts can get involved in over 250 activities. These range from abseiling to firelighting, geocaching to navigation and pioneering to zorbing. Skills they can learn and develop include teamwork, self-confidence, problem solving and social skills. Volunteer Phil said, “Scouts get the opportunity to help plan the programme, do activities for the first time, learn and develop new skills, make new friends, go camping and have lots of fun.”
Phil added, “We are also looking for volunteers to help with the young people and also to do roles in the background. This could be as a Trustee, to help with IT, administration or fund raising to mention a few. Volunteering with Scouts is flexible and whatever time you can give, we will find a role for you. We will provide training as and when you want to do some. As a volunteer, you will make new friends, learn new skills, share interests and experience, be taken out of your comfort zone (only if you want to be) and make a difference to people’s lives. Seeing a child achieve something they didn’t think they could do will always make you feel proud. Volunteering gives you a sense of purpose and a great deal of pride and satisfaction.”
