🙏 This week we are praying for how we advocate for leprosy 🙏

Through our advocacy work, we have:

💊 secured access to essential medications
⚖️ successfully encouraged the repeal of discriminatory laws
👩‍⚕️ prompted governments to implement active case finding alongside preventative medication
💸 facilitated more equal access to social protection for persons affected by leprosy
📢 ensured the rights of persons affected by leprosy are included in reports by the UN Human Rights Council
💷 accessed vital government funding for leprosy programmes

"Being an older person brings along other kinds of complexities. Some don’t know how to read or write, while others are not supported by their families. 💔 They need a support network that can answer questions such as, “Where should I go?” and “What can I do?” 💡

This Monday we are praying for:
Switzerland 🙏

This year our focus is on our educational work in Switzerland. That is our heartfelt aim, motivation and our vision: leprosy defeated - lives transformed.🤲 We do this through funding leprosy work in DR Congo, Niger, Bangladesh, Nepal, and India. 🌍️

There is one story in particular that has given us a lot to think about:💡

Sheila was born in Brazil and came to Switzerland aged 13. She had already experienced some symptoms at a younger age but did not know what they were. After her arrival in Switzerland, her symptoms grew worse and she was diagnosed with leprosy. Medical treatment was difficult, and Sheila was discriminated against in her family. She even left home because she could no longer bear it. This led to a period of medical uncertainty and several relapses of the disease. 💔

To this day, she suffers from the after-effects and must live with severe pain. For a long time, leprosy was a taboo subject for her, but a year ago Sheila learnt about TLM Switzerland, where she found a team who were willing to listen to her story and help her through the difficult terrain of state support and Swiss authorities. 🤝

🌍✨ A milestone for inclusion and accessibility!

Today, we celebrate the decision of the UN General Assembly to adopt its first-ever resolution on Access to Assistive Technology. 🦾💙

The resolution formally recognises assistive technology as essential and reinforces the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). ♿️🤝

This is an important step towards ensuring that everyone can access the technology and support they need to participate fully and independently in society. 🌎💪

This Monday we are praying for:

NEPAL 🙏

We were scheduled to pray for Nepal even before the flash floods last week. In response, we will pray for the country as we had planned, whilst also holding those affected by the floods close at heart.

In the aftermath of last week’s floods, please pray for those affected and those engaged in relief efforts. Please pray for our team as they engage with this:

👉️ Our team are working with local churches to identify persons affected by leprosy who need support,

👉️ Our hospital is ready to support with those who have been injured

👉️ Once the roads open, we are planning to lead a medical camp in the affected area, alongside the supply of emergency resources.
