How can we support those serving in the field? ๐Ÿ’ก

World Humanitarian Day slogan is "The time for concern is over. The time for consequence is now." It serves as a call for urgent action to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, in our case, those delivering life-saving assistance to people affected by leprosy.

What are some practical ways to show love and support to people affected by leprosy beyond physical treatment? ๐Ÿ’ก

We've asked this question to Pastor Lok Thapa, who has lived with the experience of leprosy and is now a member of the TLM Board.

Organisations of Persons Affected by Leprosy (OPLs)

The Leprosy Mission is an organisation that supports people affected by leprosy.

We also partner with many representative organisations that are led by and made up of individuals who have experienced leprosy themselves. Organisations of Persons Affected by Leprosy (OPLs) are the most important partners in our work. ๐Ÿค

They provide crucial insights and access to communities, allowing our work to be more impactful. ๐Ÿคฒ

Dear Lord, bless and strengthen the Organisations of Persons Affected by Leprosy, so they can bring restoration to their communities.

Research

Our main research programmes are in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, with a growing initiative in Nigeria and Ethiopia. Our three laboratories support our basic, clinical and operational research:

๐Ÿ“Stanley Browne Laboratories in Delhi, India
๐Ÿ“Mycobacterial Research Laboratories in Kathmandu, Nepal
๐Ÿ“DBLM Laboratory in Nilphamari, Bangladesh

Our research priorities are:

โœ…๏ธ Diagnostic tools โ€“ for both leprosy and leprosy reactions.
โœ…๏ธPost-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) โ€“ antibiotics to prevent leprosy developing in contacts of newly diagnosed individuals.
โœ…๏ธNew drugs for leprosy and leprosy reactions (inflammatory responses in the skin, nerves, eyes, and other parts of the body).

We partner with universities and research groups nationally and internationally to conduct basic, clinical, operational, and social research.

Dear Lord, ๐Ÿ™
We worship You through our work, and we ask You to guide our research so that, through innovation, we may make a difference in people's lives.

Leprosy Mission New Zealand (TLMNZ) is deeply grateful for the unwavering love
and support of our dedicated community. ๐Ÿคฒ

Our supporters not only sustain our mission through financial and prayerful contributions, but also volunteer their time and advocate for us in churches and community groups.๐Ÿค

Over 12,000 New Zealanders actively back our efforts, and we strive to engage even more to achieve our global goal of zero leprosy transmission by 2035. ๐Ÿ’ก

Dear Lord, ๐Ÿ™
Thank you for your love and grace, please bless those who join our efforts to see leprosy defeated.
