We are happy to announce that the Call for Panels is now OPEN for the ASA2027 Authority: Under, With, and Against conference in Cambridge, 13 - 16 April 2027, and will close on 26 October 2026!

As we face growing authoritarianism worldwide, and the undermining of reality and truth, we invite you to join a conference to explore authority in all its forms.

ASA2027 will be hosted by the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge. Here, a rich and diverse community of students and scholars carry out research at the forefront of the human and social sciences.

In this talk Rebecca Cassidy asks what we might learn from viewing growth through the lens of ideas that have held sway among pomologists and fruit growers, from druggists and herb diggers to breeders working on genetically engineered super apples.
