Myanmar - Back to School With Dignity

We know there is great need in Myanmar, especially in the communities of Mahar Aung Myae and Chanmaya Tharsi, two of the poorest areas.

Now, for the first time, we were able to do something meaningful for the children of Mahar Aung Myae and Chanmaya.

Their parents had made the painful decision not to send them to school. Having lost everything, they couldn’t afford even the minimum required for enrollment—such as uniforms and school supplies.

A Call for Help: Rebuilding Lives in Myanmar

From the very beginning of the Myanmar crisis, Baan Unrak Children’s Home, Green Island School, and AMURTEL have worked closely together to support those affected. As close partners, we are united by a shared ideology: 'We are all children of the Cosmic Family.' In times of catastrophe, our duty is not only to rescue, but also to awaken the highest expression of human sentiment — inspiring compassion, unity, and action. Our mission was to mobilize the community to stand with those in need — and we succeeded.

We Are Back — Because We Could Not Forget Them
Once again, we returned to Thar Leswar with the Green Island School team.
On 17th We went back because our work was not finished. On the 12th, we were able to reach only 140 families. But over 709 more families are still struggling in makeshift camps. We could not leave them behind.

Relief Mission Report – Myanmar Emergency Response
Conducted by AMURT/L in Collaboration with The Green Island Team
On April 12, 2025, AMURT/L launched a powerful humanitarian relief mission in Myanmar, bringing much-needed support to communities in urgent need. In collaboration with The Green Island Team, we delivered 1,000 long-lasting food packages and distributed 400 sacks of rice to 400 households. This mission was driven by tireless devotion, local cooperation, and deep compassion.

We’re nearly there - 86% of the way to our £10,000 goal, and already your generosity has created an extraordinary ripple of compassion across Myanmar.

Update on Myanmar Earthquake Relief Efforts 2025
Thank you to all who have been moved to help. The situation in Myanmar remains extremely difficult for many, but your support is making a difference.
After two days of challenging overland travel and much sacrifice, our staff member Heng arrived in Yangon by bus—the most practical option given the logistical constraints. From there, in collaboration with the Ministry of Yangon, he rented a car to reach Kalaw Village, where devastation is severe: 9 lives have been lost and 160 out of 165 houses destroyed. We also visited two other villages, Inn Yamelthin and Ti Gon, where we found a similar situation.

Standing Together for the Victims of the Myanmar Earthquake
On March 28th, a devastating earthquake struck Myanmar, bringing destruction, loss of life, and immense suffering. The tremors were so strong that we felt them here at Baan Unrak, as we are very close to the border. It was a terrifying moment, but fortunately, we are all safe and did not suffer any material damage.

We’re nearly there - 86% of the way to our £10,000 goal, and already your generosity has created an extraordinary ripple of compassion across Myanmar.

Thanks to your incredible support, 100 blankets and mats have been delivered to a remote Myanmar village that has received no aid until now. Over the weekend, 50 more sets reached families in Pyawbwe - a town previously untouched by relief.

Meanwhile, a team of Burmese volunteers from our children’s home project in Sangkhla Buri crossed the border to deliver 25 boxes of soap and medical kits.

Volunteer medic Saw John remains on the ground, soon returning to Yongun to help secure urgent, life-saving tetanus shots. But prices are rising fast - and these refrigerated vaccines must reach hospitals quickly.

If you haven’t donated yet, please consider giving today. If you have, thank you—your support is saving lives. Please share this with friends and family who might be moved to help.

Can you help? Urgent action is needed.

AMURTEL Thailand are moving fast, led by Didi Ananda Devamala from the Baan Unrak Children’s Home. The home is very close to the border. Many of their children and staff are originally from Myanmar, so she has lots of contacts there. She is coordinating with a team of medics there, who says they administer at least 200 tetanus* shots a day and they are running out. She now has a supplier on standby and our first goal is to raise £3000 to secure 5000 tetanus vaccines.

Act now to protect lives and support Didi and her team to get on the ground - they are ready to fly in to Yongun tomorrow or as soon as their visas are approved and they have the needed resources!

This winter, alongside our delicious and nutritious meals, warm drinks and other support, we have distributed hundreds of winter jackets and warm clothes that were very valued by our service users.

Regrettably, we only managed to provide a few of the much needed winter sleeping bags, which we usually buy to distribute at this time.

Our aim is to buy many more needed winter sleeping bags so we have launched a crowd funding backed by AVIVA who will match every pound you donate.

Please help us and our service users in need by donating now https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/londonfeedingprogramme
