Bright ideas, brilliant conversations and special visitors from New York state.

AIM Services Inc. Assistant Director of Supported Decision Making, Lace Miller-Kitchin, visited London Ability to meet our Supported Internship clients and staff, learn more about our unique approach and see our work in action.

It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas, share stories and build connections with people who are as passionate as we are about creating opportunities and improving lives for people with disabilities. Here’s to continuing the conversation... and perhaps a return trip to New York? 😉

As part of our Learn by Doing approach, we took a trip to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to explore different public spaces, discover what’s available in our local community, and practise everyday life skills. It was a great opportunity for our interns to build confidence in public, develop their communication and social skills, learn about local job opportunities, and experience different environments.

During the visit, the interns were served by a robot at UCL East’s Marshgate Café before heading over to the V&A East Museum, where they explored the Why We Make galleries and got creative by making their own artwork using stamps.

A huge thank you to The Julia Rausing Trust for their generous grant funding that will allow us to continue and expand our work with young people with SEND.
One young person who has benefited from our continued engagement is Oussama, who has used this ongoing support to build confidence, attend our job club and work towards his level 2 certificate in hygiene.

For young people with SEND the transition from education into employment can be exciting, and daunting. Through our Supported Internship programme and new alumni service, they can continue to rely on the guidance and support of our dedicated team to as they move toward sustainable employment.

We’re incredibly grateful to The Julia Rausing Trust for investing in the long-term success of young people with SEND and helping us ensure that support doesn’t end when a programme finishes.

We had a great time working with Essex County Cricket Club to deliver an accessible cricket and employability session for young people with SEND and physical disabilities.

Led by the London Ability team, the session used cricket activities to teach key employability skills. Through a blindfold bowling challenge, catching drills and fielding relays, young people developed communication, teamwork, leadership, listening skills, trust and the ability to work under pressure, showing how sport can be a powerful tool for learning and personal development.

We were also proud to see Nayab, one of our Supported Internship participants, assisting with the coaching throughout the session and helping to deliver activities for the group.

A big thank you to Bradley Donovan, Inclusivity Manager at Essex County Cricket Club, for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic session.

At London Ability, we are proud to support Learning Disability Week and celebrate the talents, achievements and contributions of people with learning disabilities.

This week is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge barriers and promote a more inclusive society where everyone is valued, respected and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Every day, we see the skills, strengths and potential of the people we support. Learning Disability Week is a chance to recognise those achievements and champion a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive — because it’s what you can do that matters.

Supported internships combine real placements with the right support-one-to-one guidance, job coaching, travel training and employability skills.

Nayab works alongside a sports coach building experience in a space he previously thought wasn’t accessible to him.

7 young people, 7 strengths, real potential

Our supported interns are talented, determined, creative, hardworking, and full of potential. This reel is a reminder that inclusion starts by recognising strengths, not limitations. Because at the end of the day, it’s what you can do that matters!

Some more memorable moments from our Spring Fayre. Just one of the many wonderful events organised by our Day Opportunities Centre. We’re lucky to have such a great team, amazing clients, and supportive families.
