Our Supported Internship team was pleased to attend the Project Hackney Post-16 Roadshow last week. As an organisation already working closely with Hackney Council to support young people into employment, it was great to see so many local students, educators and organisations coming together to explore opportunities after school.

One of the highlights was the panel discussion with DJ AG, Rickie Bleau and Paige Lewin, who shared inspiring stories about their journey to success.

Shout-out as well to Deputy Mayor of Hackney, Anntoinette Bramble, who opened the event and set the tone for a really positive day.

Support built around you, for you

Access to Work is a government scheme that helps fund practical support so disabled people and people with long-term health conditions can do their job effectively and not just get by.

Access to Work is about removing barriers.

The right support can mean the difference between struggling in silence and feeling confident, capable, and in control at work.

At London Ability, we work with you to find accessible, reliable, practical support that is tailored to your needs.

If you think Access to Work might help you, or someone you employ, visit our website and start the conversation.

Text reads: “Need travel help, adjustments or practical support?” Six images show different types of work, including office work, technology, media and finance. The poster ends with the message: “We can help and details about how contact London Ability.

We are so grateful to the Leyton Jumble Trail for their generous donation to London Ability.

As a local charity, community means everything to us. We love being part of a vibrant, inclusive area, supporting local people and feeling that support right back.

Every donation, whether big or small helps us to continue our work and we never take that for granted. Thank you. ❤️

Our clients enjoyed a lovely Chinese New Year lunch together, celebrating with great food and even better company. This is just one of the many ways we keep our day opportunities programme full of varied, inclusive fun-filled activities.

Five circular photos show London Ability clients enjoying a Chinese New Year lunch together. Clients are seated at tables with plates of food, smiling and eating. A decorated display board saying “Happy Chinese New Year 2026” can be seen in background of one of the photos

Alfie’s story: Becoming a bike mechanic

Alfie joined our Supported Internship programme after being referred by Hackney Education. He initially thought tech might be his future, but it quickly became clear his real passion was bikes. He often noticed the smallest details on staff bikes each morning, so we encouraged him to explore cycle mechanics as a potential career path.

Through pre-employment training, we helped Alfie understand the world of work and build the practical and emotional skills needed to thrive, including managing stress, navigating unfamiliar environments, and growing confidence in social situations.

We helped him secure two supported internship placements as a bike mechanic, where he received tailored mentoring and structured support from both our team and his employers. Alongside this, Alfie chose to pursue a qualification independently, achieving his City & Guilds Level 2 Cycle Mechanic in June 2025.

With growing confidence, strong commitment and his own determination, Alfie has now secured paid employment as a bike mechanic, a role that reflects both his passion and hard work.

Congratulations, Alfie, we’re really proud of you.

London in Reflection 🎨

Created in our day centre by clients working with our art tutor, Jamie, this piece captures the River Thames and London skyline above the water and in its reflection.

It’s a beautiful example of the creativity and collaboration in our day opportunities service, where people are supported to explore new skills, express themselves and create.
