Maternal Mental Health Week 🤍

The transition into motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming, lonely, exhausting and emotionally heavy. We hear so many stories from women who thought they were the only one feeling this way.

This week, we wanted to share some real words from mums who took part in our programme, honest reflections about motherhood, mental health, singing, connection and finding moments of light again through music and community.

Breathe Melodies for Mums is a free 10-week group singing programme for new mums (and their babies), designed to support emotional wellbeing through the power of singing together.

Led by professional Breathe singing leaders, the sessions explore songs from around the world through simple melodies, rounds and harmonies, no singing experience needed.

Because sometimes being in a room where nobody expects you to have it all together can make all the difference 🤍

New programmes start this May across London. Limited spaces available. Follow the link for more info: https://breatheahr.org/programmes/melodies-for-mums/

“For the first time in months, I felt something close to peace.”

Early motherhood can feel overwhelming, isolating, and quietly exhausting, even when no one else can see it.

This week, we’re sharing real, raw and honest stories from mums who have taken part in Breathe Melodies for Mums, a space that supports emotional wellbeing, where connection grows, and where you can feel seen, held and understood 🤍

If you’re a new mum and things feel harder than you expected, you are not alone 🤍

Our next Breathe Melodies for Mums programmes are starting next week.

🌿 New Breathe Melodies for Mums programmes are starting this May across London 🌿

Becoming a mum can be incredible and it can also feel like a lot. The broken sleep, the constant giving, the shift in everything… and not always much time that’s just for you.

Breathe Melodies for Mums is a free 10-week group singing programme for new mums and their babies, creating a space in your week to pause, connect, and do something that feels good.

This isn’t your typical mum and baby group. You are the focus, a space to feel good, supported and nourished, with your baby right there alongside you.

Each session is led by our professional Breathe singing leaders and explores songs from around the world, building gently through simple melodies, rounds, harmonies and call-and-response.

You don’t need to be a singer, your voice is more than enough here.

There’s always a friendly Breathe team on hand if you need to pause, step out, feed your baby or just take a moment.

Your baby is completely welcome to sleep, feed, cry or wriggle, everything moves around you.

✨ Lift your mood and wellbeing

Brilliant to be in the room last night for the ‘UK Arts & Health The Time is Now’ Roundtable, with so many influential individuals and organisations working to push forward the creative health agenda on both a political and grassroots level. 🙌

We were proud that our Breathe Melodies for Mums international training and scaling work was showcased as a best practice example, alongside other pioneering programmes such as 🤍

Great work from the National Centre for Creative Health (NCCH) for convening such an inspiring group of people, chaired brilliantly as always by Dr Simon Opher MP and John Slinger.

A special shout out to our previous Board Director and Research Partner Prof Daisy Fancourt for her excellent keynote, where she presented with such clarity and conviction the clear evidence base for arts as an essential ingredient for our health and wellbeing. 🤩

✨ Shining a light on Occupational Therapy

We’re excited to see the opening of Strike A Light – The Art and Science of Occupational Therapy, a landmark exhibition celebrating the creativity, impact and power of occupational therapy 🤍

Now open at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, the exhibition brings together art, science and lived experience to show how occupational therapy supports people to connect with what matters most, from creativity and play to independence and everyday life.

We see this every day through our work, including our Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Programme, where creativity and performance support children and young people to build movement, confidence and independence ✨

🚨 We’re currently looking for a Freelance Occupational Therapist to join our team.

If you’re passionate about creative therapy and want to be part of something a little different, we’d love to hear from you.

Calling all new mums in London. New Breathe Melodies for Mums free group singing programmes are starting this May, across London 🤍.

Hear from one of our mums, read her experience, and see how singing together can support your emotional wellbeing and remind you you’re not alone.

This is a story about early motherhood - the love, the anxiety, and everything in between.

One of our Breathe Melodies for Mums participants has shared her experience with honesty and vulnerability, reflecting on the challenges she faced and the support she found along the way.

Her story is deeply personal, but so much of it will feel familiar to others navigating those early days, from feeling overwhelmed and isolated, to finding connection, confidence and a sense of belonging through the programme.
