Who We Are
Established in 1995, The Iraqi Women's Association is the oldest UK run charity founded by British women of Iraqi heritage, working for Iraqi families in all areas of Iraq and the UK. We have since established an unparalleled reputation for trustworthiness and effectiveness, leading to numerous successful projects and collaborations with partner organisations. Our network of volunteers and partners within Iraq provides the infrastructure for our long term projects, such as the sponsoring of the Kafil al Yateem school in Baghdad, as well as allowing us to quickly mobilise to get resources on the ground in times of crises- such as our 2017 Mosul and 2018 Basra water appeals. It has also enabled us to identify, support and nurture the specific needs of the communities in which we operate. IWAF is a great believer of empowering women. We regularly help with supplying equipment for them to start their own small businesses, such as bread mixing and sewing machines, as well as running literacy campaigns for women and widows in deprived areas. In partnership with the Palm Library Group, we provided over 40 complete sets of reading material, with our books reaching Baghdad, Basra, Karbala and Nasserya.
