Tutu Foundation UK

Tutu Foundation UK To successfully tackle the conflict in our communities, underlying attitudes and behaviours must be addressed in order to achieve a lasting peace.

The Desmond Tutu Foundation UK is built on the inspiration and knowledge of South African communities who sought reconciliation rather than revenge following the overthrow of Apartheid, through the southern African concept of Ubuntu. The Tutu Foundation UK builds peace in fractured UK communities using a model inspired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s ground breaking peace and reconciliation work. The

Tutu Foundation UK helps communities in or at risk of conflict come together to develop a common point of view of what is wrong and how to make it better. Through our work, individuals grow in confidence and belief that they can be agents of change in their communities. With our support, communities develop their own peace projects, building bridges and changing attitudes. We employ a unique approach to conflict-resolution, drawing on the southern African concept of ubuntu, championed by Desmond Tutu in his peace work in South Africa and Northern Ireland. Ubuntu emphasises the interconnectedness of humanity; how our actions towards others have an effect on our own well-being. It promotes respect, diversity and interdependence and appeals to people of all backgrounds and faiths. As such, it is an excellent community development tool, promoting good citizenship, reconciliation and understanding. It underpins all of our work and resonates profoundly in today’s multi-cultural, multi-faith British society. To donate to the Tutu Foundation visit www.justgiving.com/tutufoundation

A dear friend, relative and colleague, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu who passed away this time but a few years ago. Thinking of Thandi, Naomi, Mungi, Edd, the late Mthunzi, more of his family and friends, Lavinia and John. Feeling blessed to have been a receiver of his love.

Inspired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his message of Ubuntu, our work brings people together at a time when unity can feel fragile. We stand alongside young people and communities, creating spaces where people can listen, heal and understand one another --- nurturing connection and hope when it’s needed most.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to stand with us. Your generosity helps us reach more young people, deepen our work in communities and continue building a kinder, more peaceful society.

Every gift, no matter the size, strengthens this work.

Thank you for supporting the spirit of Ubuntu.

🎉 The countdown has begun… Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s birthday is just around the corner!

A Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, the Arch taught us that hope is a verb, that laughter heals, and that small acts of goodness can set the world alight.

✨ This week, as we prepare to honour him, we’re building a movement of light and love — a global birthday tribute!

🌍 Here’s how you can take part:
- On 7 October, light a candle for Arch.
- Share your Tutu story, memory, or favourite quote. And tag us
- And then become a monthly supporter. Because while birthdays come once a year, the Arch’s legacy of justice, reconciliation, and truth needs to live every single day.

Your monthly gift sustains the work that keeps his principles alive in schools, communities, and global movements for peace. You become not just a donor, but a torchbearer of his vision.
