Why do we have Nature Connect Days? 🌱

To help young people connect with nature right in the heart of their community 🏙️ Showing it’s not far away, but something we can find, feel, and protect where we live 🍃.

Our Ambassadors get to step outdoors, slow down, and fully immerse themselves in the wild spaces around them 🌳

We’re looking for a Director of Operations to co-lead Bertha Earth alongside our CEO.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who understands that strong organisations are built through people, culture and care, as much as through systems and strategy.

At the heart of this role is people and HR leadership. You will oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, professional development, wellbeing and organisational policies, ensuring our people practices are robust, inclusive and genuinely supportive. This is about creating clear structures that help people feel safe, trusted and able to do their best work.

Alongside this, you will lead the operational foundations of the organisation, including safeguarding, compliance, finance, data and infrastructure. Working closely with the CEO, you will help translate vision into sustainable systems that allow Bertha Earth to grow with integrity and care.

This role is well suited to someone excited by organisational growth and evolution, who enjoys working in close partnership with a CEO and who brings both warmth and rigour to leadership.

Role highlights:

🗓️ Part-time, permanent role (3 days per week)
💷 £60,000–£68,000 pro rata, inclusive of London weighting
🏙️ London-based with flexible hybrid working

If you have strong experience in operational and HR leadership, and you are motivated by building healthy, values-led organisations that support young people and the planet, we would love you to take a look.

Day three of a Bertha Earth retreat is all about challenge.

And this year, our Ambassadors from Reach Academy Feltham took that challenge on at Lower Treginnis farm in St Davids, thanks to our new partnership with . 👨‍🌾

From early morning farmyard tasks to a big afternoon hike along the coast, the day was designed to stretch comfort zones and build resilience.

For some, the challenge was physical, tackling new terrain, pushing through tired legs, and supporting each other to reach the top. For others, it was the quiet challenges: patience, reflection, and stepping into unfamiliar spaces with confidence.

We talked about what challenge means. How it’s different for everyone. And how the moments that feel tough are often the ones that help us grow.🪴

By the time we reached the clifftops and looked out over Ramsey Island, something had shifted. There was a real sense of pride. The group had moved together, supported one another, and taken in the wild beauty around them, learning about seaweed’s role in environmental sustainability and the rich history of the island. 🪨

This was our first visit to a site, and we’re so grateful for their warmth and wisdom. For nearly 50 years, they’ve created spaces where young people can connect to nature, food, farming and themselves in powerful, lasting ways. 💚

Swipe and take a look at some photos from their day! ⬅️

Day two at Hereford and the theme was collaboration. 🌿

From sunrise to sunset, the William Perkin Ambassadors worked together. They did some cooking, building, planting, creating and learned just how much we can achieve when we support one another.

The morning started with a feast: pancakes, sausages, fruit salad, porridge, toast (you name it), all prepared by our breakfast team. As the dough proofed for lunch, others were out in the garden or doing animal rounds, making sure the farm was cared for. 🍽️🌾

After breakfast, we took some time to reflect: What does collaboration really mean? What roles do we take in a team, and why? How do we show up for each other when it matters?

Later, it was back to activities! Spatula-making, more gardening, and a delicious team-cooked lunch of pizzas, wedges, and salad. Plus homemade ice lollies for snack. 🍕

The highlight? Building a nature village in the woods. Each group made a structure. We had a house, a shop, a toilet, and even a place of worship, using only natural materials and eco-paint. A beautiful collective effort that brought the day’s theme to life.

We ended the day splashing through a stream walk (lots of soggy wellies, lots of laughs), followed by chicken and veg for dinner, and a cosy movie night watching Babe The Pig - for many, the first time. 🎬

Swipe through to see some of the collaboration in action. 💚

Day one on this week’s retreat at Hereford, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. 💚

Each day of our Bertha Earth retreat carries a theme, and yesterday, our word was connection.

From the moment William Perkins’ Ambassadors arrived, there was excitement in the air. After settling in, we set off on a full tour of the farm, meeting the animals who will be our neighbours for the week. 🐴🐑

We collected fresh eggs straight from the coop, then tested our teamwork with the egg toss - protect the egg at all costs! (Spoiler: not all of them made it, but the laughter said it all.) 🥚✨

Later, we headed out on a walk through the fields, lightning crackling in the distance, to spot the sheep and her lamb, who soaked up every bit of attention.

Dinner was hearty and homemade, followed by group games and a beautiful reflection circle. We shared who or what we’d connected to on day one and who or what we’d like to connect with in the days to come.

Swipe through to see a few glimpses of the day. 📸

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating Environmental Leadership – because change doesn’t happen without people leading it 🌍

At Bertha Earth, we see leadership not as a title but as a mindset. It’s in the small choices and everyday actions. It’s noticing the world around you and taking responsibility for it. And it’s something we see in our Ambassadors every day.

From planting wildflowers in their local communities to sparking climate conversations at home, their leadership shows up in personal, local and powerful ways.

Let’s take a moment to see how our Ambassadors define leadership for the planet...

When was the last time you saw a beetle? 🪲

Noticed one on the pavement? Heard the hum of insects in the park?
If you’re struggling to remember, you’re not alone.

Insects are disappearing, quietly but rapidly.
And beetles, which make up nearly 40% of all known insect species, are among the hardest hit.

🌍 Their decline isn’t just a nature problem. It’s a people problem.
Bugs aren’t just a backdrop; they pollinate our food, recycle nutrients, fuel ecosystems and keep nature in balance.

But it’s not all doom and gloom: small actions, like rewilding a corner of your garden or ditching the pesticides, can make a real difference and we can all play a small part to help.

So let this post be a reminder of how special beetles really are, and a catalyst to appreciate them the next time one crosses your path.

More than ever, storytelling is a necessary and powerful tool for change—one that we’ve embedded in our curriculum. 🎬🌍

During a recent Storytelling Day with our partner Central Film School, we helped equip young people with the skills and confidence to tell stories that matter.

At the film school, our Ambassadors explored the world of visual storytelling, learning how film can be used to share powerful messages about nature and the planet.

📽️ From concept to creation, here’s what they got up to:
🎥 Touring the film school—seeing how lighting, angles, and sound shape a story
🎬 Getting hands-on with professional cameras and exploring the editing suites
📝 Storyboarding their own mini films—crafting powerful messages with nature at the heart
🎭 Putting their acting hats on—stepping into different roles to bring their stories to life
🎞️ Filming and screening their work—showcasing their ideas and seeing storytelling in action

By the end of the day, they had turned ideas into films, explored new ways to storytell, and built the confidence to use their voices for change.

Wildlife is all around us, if we take the time to look. 🌍✨

World Wildlife Day reminds us that nature isn’t just found in remote rainforests or vast oceans; it’s in our local parks, along our rivers, and even in the cracks of the pavement. From the tiniest insects to towering trees, every living thing plays a part in the delicate balance of our ecosystems.

We’re committed to helping our Ambassadors explore and connect with the wildlife around them - whether they’re spotting newts in a city pond, studying fallen leaves, or taking in the sights and sounds of the forest.

Noticing nature brings us closer to it. And the more we notice, the more we care, and the more we protect. 💚
