We provide a range of social and educational opportunities for people living/working in the London Borough of Camden and the surrounding area. The focus of these activities is centred around narrowboats and the canals. Tarporley is

Could you learn to handle a 72-foot narrowboat? 🛥

Tarporley offers three boating training routes for different experience levels:

Community Crew Course
For beginners and young people aged 14+. Learn crew roles, safety and practical skills.

Boat Handling Course
For ages 14+. Build confidence in steering, manoeuvring and safe boat handling.

Certificate in Community Boat Management
For experienced adults aged 18+. Work towards operating community boats carrying up to 12 passengers.

Each course follows National Community Boats Association standards.

Whether you want to volunteer, prepare for a boating holiday or lead community trips, there is a route for you.

It’s B. Pronounced “win-ding”, a winding hole gives long narrowboats enough space to turn around.

Tarporley uses Kingsland Basin as a winding point during historic trips with the London Canal Museum.

Think of it as a roundabout for narrowboats.

A new MyLondon investigation has revealed a backlog of 126 sunken boats across London’s waterways, while more than £700,000 was spent removing vessels in 2024/25.

These wrecks are not just an eyesore. They pollute the water, block navigation and put already-stretched canal resources under pressure.

At CCNA, we believe London’s waterways deserve better. Protecting them requires responsible boating, proper maintenance and long-term investment.
