Apparently we’re reintroducing ourselves, so hi 👋

I’m Claire. Teacher, mum, founder of PPA Buddy and someone who gets far too excited when I discover a shortcut that saves approximately 14 seconds.

I’m interested in making teaching quieter, easier and less consuming, better systems, sensible uses of AI, fewer pointless tasks and a lot more permission to decide that good enough really is good enough.

I’ll test the tools, question the “we’ve always done it this way” stuff and share anything that genuinely saves teachers time.

All so there’s a little more life left when the school day ends.

If that sounds like your sort of thing, stick around.

If you also get disproportionately excited by a good keyboard shortcut, we’ll probably get along.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, I’ve been working with primary schools, and I found something I wasn’t expecting.

Nearly every one of them had already bought a fancy D&T scheme. A proper one, from a proper publisher, chosen by someone who cared enough to fight for the money. These aren’t schools ignoring D&T.

And it still isn’t working.

Because no scheme knows you’ve got thirty children, one adult, no workshop and no technician. It fills those gaps with assumptions, and the assumptions look a lot like a well-resourced secondary department. I teach in one of those, and there are primary units I’ve read that I wouldn’t attempt in my own room.

But when something expensive and glossy doesn’t work, hardly anyone blames the scheme. They blame themselves.

Buying it was never the problem. Assuming it would fit was.

Comment D&T and I’ll send you my free D&T curriculum check, plus the full write up. Takes about twenty minutes to run across your own plan.

Is this just where I’ve been looking, or are you seeing it too?

There’s a machine in my workshop that hasn’t been switched on in a term.

Not because nobody wants to use it. Because there’s never an hour spare to set it up, test it, remember how it runs.

That’s the teacher workload cost nobody puts in a spreadsheet.

Subject specialists slowly losing touch with the subject they specialise in. Not through laziness. Through a timetable that treats craft as a luxury and admin as the job.

I used to feel guilty about wanting workshop time. Now I think it’s one of the few genuinely irreplaceable things I do.

A screen can draft my emails. It can’t keep my hands sharp.

That part’s still on me. I just need the time to be allowed to protect it.

Battling an ear infection this morning so only managed a short ski.

Now I’m sitting in the sun with a coffee waiting for the kids to finish ski school.

And honestly? This IS the rest.

Not the version I used to think counted. Not earned through suffering or guilt-free only after a six-week push. Just… this. Sun. Coffee. Kids accounted for. Ear infection and all.

I used to think recovery had to look a certain way. Now I know it just has to actually happen.

What does rest look like for you this holiday? Not the ideal version. The real one.
