Work experience is one of the best ways for students interested in geographical careers to connect with real employers and explore where geography can take them 💼

That’s why, together with Springpod, we’ve developed a virtual work experience programme for students looking to get a taste of geographical careers in action - no commute, networking or placement advisors required.

Over 900 students have already taken part. Here’s what some of them had to say 👇

We're delighted to announce a new addition to our grant-giving programme!

The Kensington Fieldwork Grant will offer support to experienced field scientists, expeditioners and storytellers who are looking to undertake innovative geographical exploration and research projects with significant potential for impact, and that will help protect our shared planet at local and global levels. Four annual awards of £25,000 will be available and are now open for applications.

Made possible thanks to the generous support of Jeff Willner and Kensington, the grants represent a shared belief that geographical exploration and research has never been more vital than it is today.

Jeff says “Geography plays an increasingly critical role in our understanding of human-environment interactions, and the very global systems we collectively rely upon... It is an honour to support the next generation of explorers through this grant... By investing in diverse voices at the frontier of geographic inquiry, we believe the possibility for systemic, lasting change is real.”

🌿 What do you know about eucalyptus?

Perhaps you know it for its distinctive smell or its use in an array of products. But some of the plant's other properties, such as being highly visible from satellite imagery, has made it hugely popular with Rwanda’s government - eucalyptus is now responsible for an estimated 80% of the country's tree cover!

While eucalyptus has important properties, the impacts of eucalyptus trees are not always positive for local communities. Through his work on sustainability and climate resilience in agri-food contexts, Dr Nathan Clay is exploring the impacts of Rwanda’s eucalyptus boom on both people and landscapes.
