🏳️‍🌈 Muholi’nin yirmi yılı aşkın üretimini bir araya getiren sergi, sanatçının ikonik topluluk portresi projesi Faces and Phases, Only Half the Picture, Being, Mo(u)rning, LiZa ve ZaVa serilerinden seçkiler, otoportre serisi Somnyama Ngonyama’ dan yeni işler ve son dönem bronz heykellerini bir araya getiriyor.

🙌 İsiZulu dilinde “seninle”, “yan yana” ve daha geniş anlamıyla “birlik” anlamına gelen “Kanye Nawe”, Muholi’nin Siyah LGBTQIA+ topluluklarını görünür kılma ve tarihsel silinmeye karşı bir görsel hafıza oluşturma yaklaşımını yansıtıyor.

🏆 Güney Afrikalı görsel aktivist ve sanatçı Muholi’nin bu sergisi, Faces and Phases projesinin 20. yılı, Güney Afrika’da eşcinsel evliliği yasallaştıran Sivil Birlik Yasası’nın 20. yılı ve ülke Anayasası’nın 30. yılıyla kesişen önemli bir dönemde gerçekleşiyor.

2006’da Güney Afrika’da Siyah Q***r topluluklara yönelik şiddet ve nefret suçlarına yanıt olarak başlatılan Faces and Phases, bugün en kapsamlı Siyah LGBTQIA+ görsel arşivlerinden biri kabul ediliyor. Bu sergi de erken dönem portreleriyle güncel işlerini bir arada görebiliyoruz.

Sergide ayrıca yakınlık, arzu ve Q***r ilişkilerin farklı boyutlarını ele alan fotoğraflar, ile hafıza, maneviyat ile atalık temalarını üç boyuta taşıyan büyük ölçekli bronz heykeller de yer alıyor.

📈1972 doğumlu, 2026 Hasselblad Ödülü sahibi Muholi, son yıllarda Tate Modern London, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art ve the Brooklyn Museum, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Instituto Moreira Salles, São Paulo gibi birçok önemli kurumdaki kişisel sergileri, bienal ve özel projelerle global sanat piyasasındaki yerini sağlamlaştırmaya devam ediyor 👏🏻

Mohau Modisakeng’s meditative self-portraiture uses the language of dreams and visions to communicate a sense of suppressed trauma, evoking the scars which persist from violence enacted under Apartheid. A sculptor by training, he uses performance, video and photography to thread together his haunting narratives.

He was the 2016 recipient of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Arts. As part of being chosen for this award, his solo exhibition Lefa la Ntate toured institutions across South Africa. Modisakeng’s work has been exhibited at Kunstraum Innsbruck; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), New York; Museum of Fine Art, Boston; Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town and Saatchi Gallery, London. His work forms part of the two-person exhibition in the South African Pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Venice (2017). His work is included in the collections of Zeitz MoCAA, Cape Town and the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA), among others.

Photographe contemporaine éthiopienne, Aida Muluneh développe une œuvre qui mêle photographie, mise en scène et symbolisme. Ses images, caractérisées par des couleurs vives, des compositions graphiques et un langage visuel inspiré des traditions africaines, explorent les questions d’identité, de représentation et de mémoire.

À travers des portraits soigneusement construits, elle propose une esthétique à la fois puissante et poétique, où le corps devient un espace d’expression et de réflexion. Son travail invite à repenser les récits visuels contemporains et notre regard sur la beauté, la diversité et les représentations du monde.

Posted • HdM GALLERY The mogu (“boneless”) technique has been used in Chinese ink painting since the Song dynasty. No outlines. Colour and wash alone. Song Ling uses it to invert reality — building darkness layer by layer until something ancient starts to look like a photograph no one has developed yet.

In presenting ‘Negative’ we are entering into dialogue with that broader tradition — one that places ink at the centre of Chinese visual culture, and that continues to define what serious painting in China looks like.
