Did you know, insects are eaten and enjoyed in many cultures across the world? 🦗
They are an important source of protein and provide income-generating opportunities for people in both rural and urban areas. Compared to many other sources of protein, such as cattle and pigs, their impact on the environment is minimal.

This World Food Day we are looking at the low environmental impact of breeding and harvesting insects as a viable alternative to animal protein. For example:

- Insects need much less food and water than livestock to produce the same amount of useful protein.
- Insects reproduce quickly and can be kept in a small space and fed on agricultural and food waste.
- Insects produce much lower levels of damaging greenhouse gases than conventional livestock.

To find out more about the many benefits of insects including the role they can play in tackling food insecurity, land degradation and climate change, read our Footsteps edition on insects today, Link below!👇 🐛

Sudden disasters such as earthquakes, floods, cyclones and landslides affect millions of people every year. The climate crisis means that these events are increasing. Are you prepared for a disaster like this where you live?

Today is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. It’s a good time to take steps to prepare for the types of disaster that might affect you, your household and your community. What if you suddenly need to leave your home? Where would the community gather to give and receive help? What supplies might you need to have in that situation?

To evaluate the risks and prepare the things you might need in an emergency, start by asking:

-What types of disaster are most likely to happen where we are?
-What are we going to do about it?
-What can we do ahead of time to get prepared?

Having answers to these questions is a great start, but you can go a step further. To build a disaster preparedness plan for you and your community, download our disasters essentials programme today, so you’re as prepared as possible if a disaster strikes. Link below 👇

‘The conflicts that led to the loss of human life are beginning to find peaceful solutions, and this gives us joy in our hearts.’

Younous Dout is a community leader in Batha province, Chad, where disagreements between cattle herders and crop farmers are common. He trained as a peacebuilder with Tearfund’s partner Projet Évangélique de Développement Communautaire (Evangelical Community Development Project). He now leads a conflict management committee that includes cattle herders, farmers and representatives from government and community groups, and is seeing a peaceful way forward.

This year’s International Day of Peace honours the ‘everyday architects of peace’: people driving local action, laying the groundwork for stability, and building a lasting peace from the ground up. At Tearfund, we celebrate our peacebuilders and the vital work they do to build trusting relationships between individuals and communities in difficult circumstances.

You can play a part in peacebuilding, too: Read more about Younous and the peacebuilding work in Chad below 👇

Half of the people on the planet are aged 30 or younger. By the end of 2030, this is expected to reach 57 per cent.

It’s International Youth Day, and this year the focus is on the role of young people in using global collaboration, digital innovation, and strategic alliances to address issues such as climate change, mental health, education and employment. Tearfund and our partners are working with young people around the world who are doing this important work.

In Lima, Peru, a project called ‘Zero Waste Routes – Profam’ is one example. When the area beside the main road was covered with rubbish, causing a bad smell and environmental problems, young people stepped in. They teamed up with local leaders, neighbours, and the church to get the support they needed. Together, they organised a huge clean-up day with 35 volunteers, transforming their community.

Will you support young people like these for International Youth Day?

- Pray for this project and those like it, that change lives and strengthen communities

Did you know that an estimated 49.6 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery?

Thursday 30th July was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Today, traffickers often trick people with fake job offers, taking them to other countries where they are trapped, held against their will, and forced to commit cyber fraud. As Christians, we believe every person is made in the image of God and deserves to live in freedom and dignity. God calls us to loose the chains of injustice (Isaiah 58:6) and stand with the oppressed.

Through our local church partners around the world, Tearfund is working tirelessly to tackle the root causes of trafficking, such as poverty and lack of opportunity, that make people vulnerable to these cruel scams. You can help us. Will you join us in prayer and action today?

- Pray for the rescue and restoration of those trapped as a result of trafficking.
- Learn the signs of fake job offers to protect your community.
- Raise your voice by sharing this post to expose the hidden reality of modern slavery.
- Find out more about how to prevent trafficking and support survivors.

Together, we can bring hope and freedom.

Faith leaders are often the most trusted voices in their communities, making them frontline defenders during a health crisis. ⛪🌍

During previous Ebola outbreaks, local pastors and religious leaders played a critical role in stopping the virus by:
-combatting misinformation and fear
-guiding communities to safely adjust traditional greetings and funeral practices
-supporting survivors and reducing stigma

Health emergencies require both medical care and deep community trust. Discover how faith leaders helped beat Ebola in our Footsteps 102 interview 👇

Knowledge is our best defense against Ebola. Because early symptoms often resemble malaria or typhoid, knowing what to look out for – and how to react – saves lives.
What communities need to know:
- Sudden onset of fever, weakness, and sore throat are early signs of Ebola.
- Do not care for the sick at home without proper training/equipment.
- Seek medical care immediately – early treatment drastically improves survival rates.
Help us spread facts, not fear.

For many, surviving Ebola is only the first battle. The second is surviving the stigma.

When fear takes over a community, survivors are often shunned, and families are left isolated. But we know from past outbreaks that a united, informed community is the most powerful weapon against this virus.

We must welcome survivors back with open arms (literally and figuratively) and replace fear with facts. Help your community learn how Ebola actually spreads and how to support those affected.
