Our founder, Professor Owase Jeelani, recently appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain to share some of the incredible stories of the craniopagus twins we have separated and the ones we are preparing to operate on.

He also talked about our groundbreaking research on the development and physiology of these twins, which could benefit other areas of medicine and neuroscience. One of the stories was that of Heitor & Augusto, a second set of Brazilian twins who were separated by Dr Gabriel Mufarrej & Gemini Untwined in Brazil last summer, when they were only 2 weeks old. They were the earliest ever detected, at 12 weeks into their mother’s pregnancy. This was a huge achievement, as it allowed us to study how these twins develop before birth.

Sadly, Heitor faced some serious challenges and left us too soon, but Augusto is recovering well at home with his loving parents, who share their story in this special video. Tap the link below to watch:

It was fantastic to hear our founder, Prof. Owase Jeelani, talk about the work we do with craniopagus twins on ITV’s Good Morning Britain yesterday morning.

The life-changing surgeries we do at Gemini are not possible without the generosity of our donors. We are currently raising funds for 2 new sets of twins referred to Gemini in the past few weeks. Besides Arthur and Bernardo, 5-year-old Brazilian twins separated in 2022, Owase spoke about Heitor and Augusto, a second set of Brazilian twins separated earlier this year. They were the seventh set of twins operated on by the Gemini Team and were only 6 weeks old when the emergency separation took place.
The twins were detected at 12 weeks into their mother’s pregnancy, the earliest craniopagus twins referred. This was a major milestone, allowing the team to monitor and understand how craniopagus twins develop before birth using fetal imaging. Once again, we worked with Dr Gabriel Mufarrej and Dr Heron Werner and the Instituto Estadual do Cérebro Paulo Niemeyer team on this landmark separation.

"Every child deserves a chance to lead a healthy life. My colleagues and I, as well as the other surgeons involved, gladly volunteer our time to help these children, but there are many significant costs – not least aftercare and research – which require significant funding.
