In Bangladesh’s Rohingya refugee camps, monsoon season can be a matter of life and death.

Families live in shelters on steep hillsides where landslides can destroy homes.

As rainfall subsides, communities are repairing damage and recovering from the impact of recent storms.

Imagine this: one moment you're safe in the comfort of your home. The next, everything is gone.

Your home lies in ruins. You have nowhere to sleep, nowhere to shelter and no idea what comes next.

For thousands of people in Venezuela, this is a devastating reality.

More than a month after the earthquakes struck, countless families are still without safe homes and urgently need support.

UK for UNHCR Storyteller Yana never really thought about safety – it was just part of her everyday life. That was until she was forced to flee Ukraine.

Now, safety means waking up knowing the people she loves are alive.

“It is having the opportunity to work, contribute and rebuild your life rather than simply survive.”

Finding safety in the UK gave Yana the chance to start again, build a new business and create opportunities for others.

Her story is a reminder that safety is personal. But the right to seek it is universal.

The Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC is putting already vulnerable communities at even greater risk.

More than 2 million displaced people, including 300,000+ refugees, are living in high-risk areas, while reception centres in neighbouring Uganda are overstretched.

UNHCR is supporting the response by strengthening prevention and surveillance, improving access to clean water and hygiene facilities, training community leaders and ensuring displaced people can access healthcare without stigma.

As the outbreak continues, urgent support is needed to protect displaced families and the communities hosting them.

Being a refugee is just a chapter, not the whole story.

They are parents, students, neighbours, entrepreneurs, colleagues and friends, all with talents, ambitions and dreams.

Keeping the promise of safety means ensuring refugees have the opportunity to rebuild their lives and contribute to the communities that welcome them.
